I've never once been warned or had my viewpoint suppressed here. I've gone so far as to tell Skinner to his face (inter-face so to speak) that I thought his analysis of the 2000 election contained significant amounts of nonsense. I have many viewpoints which would certainly fall into the unpopular category here and they've never, ever been suppressed. In fact, I think I've only ever had two posts deleted: one where I demonstrated some flaws in the security of what is allowed in a post (minor flaws in CSS allowed) and one where I was being a jerk because I intensely disliked the poster (and thus violated the rules with that post).
It's pretty damned hard to get your viewpoint suppressed around here. In fact, I think your viewpoint has to consist of "I think you're all asses" or "I like Karl Rove, you Clenis Lovers" in order to be suppressed.
DU has never been a cuddly love fest. If it was it would be boring, it would suck, and I think most of us would leave. In fact, I would say the sheer number of ever raging flame fests is a damned good indicator of how little mod intrusion there is.
What you think a democrat and a liberal are may not be what the next person thinks. If the next person disagrees with you on these, it does not mean DU sucks.
