Woody Harrelson to go on 40 day starvation retreat.

Woody Harrelson plans to fast for 40 days in Hawaii

Woody Harrelson is planning a strict starvation retreat on a remote Hawaiian island.

The Natural Born Killers star hopes to take time out from his acting career to live on nothing but spring water for 40 days. He explains, “I’m going to go to a small island in Hawaii, a really remote place, and drink the water right from the stream and then consume nothing else for 40 days. “I’ve always wanted to do it… I don’t take it lightly. I know it’s gonna be hard.”

Harrelson refuses to name the remote location where his fasting will take place - because the area is only known to native Hawaiians.

The movie star has lived on Maui with his partner and their kids for the past eight years.

5. Wait'll his skin erupts into boils and his muscles disintigrate.
I hope he has medical assistance. Fasting on just water is so dangerous.

6. Okay, no benefits, certain suffering and scurvy.
What could be better?

Why 40 days? My understanding is that 21 days is about as long as one can survive without nutrition and even then the victim will be pretty fucked-up.

7. Maybe it's a biblical thing
Isn't 40 days and 40 nights some sort of biblical time frame?

8. Yes. It was the amount of time JC wandered aimlessly in the desert.
Apparently, the thirst made him hallucinate that he saw the devil.

13. There are various health claims about 40 day fasts.
For example:

"To a healthy clean body, fasting comes as natural as eating. During water or juice fasting, the protein levels of the blood remain constant. Although protein is being used, a person fasting 40 days on water will not suffer a deficiency of protein, vitamins, minerals or fatty acids. In the breakdown of dying and diseased cells, all essential substances are available while fasting for reuse within the body. These are utilized and conserved in a most extraordinary manner."

(I'm not saying that's true, just posting that this is an idea out there. Don't no one try it and blame me for it!)

14. There are no remote Hawaiian Islands
Edited on Tue May-27-08 02:59 PM by arcadian
and they are all remote. The group is pretty clustered. With only 8 major islands. Could be Ni'hau, that is the most "Hawai'ian" of the Hawaiian islands, but it's not so pretty and lush as the others. My guess is a remote valley on one of the major islands. Not anywhere on O'ahu, too overpopulated; not Lanai, too developed by Dole pineapple who owns the whole island. Not Maui, he already has a house there; not Kaho'olawe, bombed out by the U.S. Navy. My guess on where he's going.

1.)Kalalau valley on the Napali Coasl of Kaua'i. It's beautiful and it's where all the hippies go to live.

2.)Moloka'i is the least visited populated island, there is a remote valley there where people are living a subsistance lifestyle. It's called Halawa Valley.

3.)Waimanu Valley on the Big Island. I've been here. It's like eden. It's remote, 9-11 mile backpack in to the valley. This would be my choice.
