Kurt Cobain's Ashes Stolen
ROCKER KURT COBAIN’s ashes have been stolen from his widow COURTNEY LOVE’s Hollywood home.

The remains were in a pink jewelled handbag hidden in a wardrobe.

Courtney, 43, thinks a former pal took them. She said: “I’m suicidal. This makes me more than sick. Who has their husband’s ashes stolen?”

NIRVANA singer Kurt shot himself in 1994.

Police are already investigating the theft of £36million of his cash.

22. Serious depression isn't a matter of courage
Obviously, neither you nor anyone close to you has ever dealt with the realities of a major depressive or bipolar disorder. It's not a matter of being able to "deal with your shit". It's far deeper and difficult to understand.

24. I've been suffering from severe depression...
...for nearly 25 years. It's pretty much reduced me to a total recluse at this point. I rarely leave the leave the house apart from the necessary trips to work or the grocery store, and virtually everything I used to take any joy in has long since started to bore the crap out of me. Every morning I think about the day ahead of me and feel I have nothing to look forward to. I've never had a girlfriend or even dated, and I'm nearly 40 years old. I haven't had any friends since I was a teenager, and the few I had back then deserted me when I started to get "weird". I'm pretty much alone in the world, and I expect to be that way until the day I die. I'm morbidly shy, socially inept, very short, and about as cute as a bulldog's backside.

I've considered committing suicide several times, but I don't because I have family and RESPONSIBILITIES to think of, including a niece who is also showing signs of suffering from depression who doesn't need her dumb-assed uncle setting a bad example for her by just cashing in when things get hard. Yes, I'm sure her outlook on life will improve dramatically the day she has to help scrub my dried, clotted brain remnants off a wall.:sarcasm:

Part of the reason Kurt Cobain gave for killing himself was that he couldn't handle the stress of his career. Boo-fucking-hoo. I'm a fucking rock star and I can't deal with it. Even a drug-addled Courtney Love had enough presence of mind to ask "Well why didn't you just quit, then?" He probably could have retired any time he wanted. Retired and raised his fucking kid, as even the least of actual men would make an effort to do.

That's something I'd sure as hell like to do, but I'm afraid I don't have a crappy, over-rated band to make a truckload of money off of.

He wasn't just a coward. He was a flaming pussy.

That doesn't make them a pussy.

You can be proud of your having the strength to face every day without tearing down others who aren't as strong.

28. I'm sorry...
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 03:00 PM by oedura
Really, I am.

It's just that--as someone who has been guilty of being a gigantic coward on more occasions than I'd care to admit to in my own life--I find it really hard to have any respect for people who look down the cold, hard road that is life and...flinch.

Especially when those people are better off than I am, still in their 20s, have wives who love them, and children to raise. If I have nothing and I can do it...

Sorry. Just the way I feel.

29. I understand...
but you're just stronger. That's all there is to it. He may have been 'better off' but that doesn't make up for weakness. I think of depression / suicide as like a weight. I think I read the analogy here, actually... that when that burden gets too heavy for a person to carry, they will be crushed by it. So I can't really 'blame' anyone for taking the so-called 'easy' way out.

I can't even call it the 'easy' way out. Doing that to your loved ones isn't easy. It just isn't. But obviously for some, the pain of staying here outweighs the pain of letting their loved ones down. It sucks for everyone.

... just my opinion though.

31. You must never have been
Really depressed. Bottom of the pits of hell depressed. Or mentally ill. Or have found yourself in a situation where you could see no way out. If you think it is easy to shoot yourself or stand on a ladder with a noose around your neck and jump you are delusional.

32. Like I said before, I've been severely depressed...
...and socially isolated for almost as long as Kurt Cobain was alive.

No great career, no friends to hang out with and provide stress relief, no wife to tell me she loves me when I come home, no kids to bring up. Just myself, a string of crappy jobs where I've invariably been treated like a walking punchline, a few family members who occasionally remember I exist, and some dogs and cats.

I'm sorry if that's not enough of dementia resumé to impress you, but it's kept me quite miserable, thank you.

Still here, though.

33. I'm glad you're alive, I really am
but because somehow you have found a way to live, does not speak for everyone. Not everyone is hard- wired the same. Suicide is not an act of cowardice just because you say so.
Compassion is a valuable asset......

34. Great...
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 05:48 PM by oedura
...if I ever get up the nerve to try and ask a woman out on a date again some time before I die, I'd appreciate somebody telling her that after I get the usual condescending smirk or look of horror that reads something like, "Oh, God...something horrid has just crawled out of my ass and now it wants to buy me dinner."

Until then...

Edit: BTW, I should add that I don't think suicide is cowardly. I just think that the idea of a guy in his 20s who had everything Cobain had and couldn't come up with a better solution is.

37. I understand that life has treated you cruely...
I feel the same way sometimes. But still, someone who chooses to leave this life is not a coward or taking the easy way out. they are in pain...more pain than they could bear and they deserve our compassion even though the pain they leave their friends and family in is intense.

40. You're trying to apply logic and reason..
to a situation which was driven by a complex emotional state caused by a brain disorder. You also seem to think that money and fame can fill in the holes caused by depression, which is never the case.

Kurt believed that his very existence was detrimental to his daughter's future. It's a nonsensical thought, to be sure, but it's exactly the kind of thought I experienced firsthand during a severe bout of postpartum depression. I honestly believed, with every fiber of my being, that suicide would be the best thing I could do for my child. Fortunately, the hormones subsided within a few days. If that guilt and pain had lingered for weeks and months on end, I couldn't have managed.

Some people are simply not in a place where they can work through the dark thoughts with rational thinking. In addition to the depression and guilt, he suffered from chronic pain and an out of control drug addiction. I have a lot of empathy for what he went through.

38. Not your place to judge what he did.

Not mine, not anyone's.

He felt he had to let go, for reasons perhaps no one will ever understand. Accept that.

Trying to find compassion for both him and his family is a good start.

Perhaps I'm cynical, but it sounds to me like CL dumped the ashes into whichever freebie purse was closest to hand when they were delivered, then tossed it into a closet...

I understand keeping them in the closet for a year or so when figuring out where to eventually put them, but 14 years is too much.

26. An Uncle
I had an uncle who joked that he wanted his ashes in a mayonnaise jar sitting on top of the TV. So a cousin wanted half his ashes. They talked him out it. If the uncle wanted to be buried, would he want half his corpse.

Anyway, a peanut butter jar is better.

30. "Who has their husband’s ashes stolen?" You, Courtney...
...And maybe that's a wake-up call? But it probably won't be? At a certain point, people who are gonna be fifty in not much more than half a dozen years have to wake up and join the real, adult world of basic responsibility. I know things are tough because you're a multi-millionaire celebrity, and such, but gee-whiz, it's not hard to fathom how you lost Kurt's ashes. You're a first-class flake, and it's really not unexpected. If I were you, I'd dedicate a lot of time and effort toward finding those ashes. If you don't? You're basically OJ, looking for Nicole's phantom killer.
