Tatum O誰eal arrested in NYC for "allegedly trying to buy crack"

Tatum O誰eal arrested in NYC drug bust
Oscar-winning 44-year-old actress allegedly tried to buy crack cocaine

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24926799/

NEW YORK - Oscar-winner Tatum O誰eal, the former child actress who chronicled her struggles with addiction in a 2004 memoir, was arrested on suspicion of buying drugs on the streets of New York City on Sunday, police said on Monday.

The New York Daily News reported O誰eal, 44, was caught buying crack cocaine from a homeless street vendor three blocks from her home.

A police spokesman said she was seen buying a controlled substance from a man in Manhattan痴 Lower East Side, once a crime-infested neighborhood that has become trendy.

O誰eal痴 representatives could not be reached for comment. It was unclear when she would go before a judge.

1. She's a beautiful & talented gal who has suffered from her poor parenting upbringing
She's been thru so much in life. I'm not saying that she isn't to blame for what has happened today but it just goes to show the difficulties one goes thru with not only being a child of famous parent but also a child actress.

2. What exactly has she gone through?
I am not privy to much of her life story but what I understand is that she was a child star(were her parents famous?) then married John McEnroe, had some kids, got divorced and is now buying crack.

From what I know her life does not seem to be hard.

Maybe she just likes cocaine.

4. um, yeah, her parents are famous
Her father is Ryan O'Neal, her mother was an actress, Joanne Cook-Moore. Her "step-mother" for much of her life was Farrah Fawcett.

Tatum won an Oscar at the age of 10, was the highest-paid child actor at the time, and dated Michael Jackson. If that won't fuck you up good, what will?

5. Hard is not private schools and nighclubs
Hard is poverty. Hard is having to work at age 13 to pay for school. hard is taking care of a dying parent.

Screwed up family life? Maybe. But that is not an excuse for buying crack. It just makes you a crackhead.

7. what family
Her father abandoned her for her younger years until he finally took her in where she basically had no life known except for that of a hard-partying bachelor. When Tatum won her Oscar, her father refused to show up because he was jealous of her daughter's success. Even when she married John McEnroe, none of her family attitude.

Yes, she's had the money - but to not have a family that loves you unconditionally can be just as tragic.

8. I made no excuses
but there's not only one kind of hard life. Christina Onassis had a hard life. Barbara Hutton had a hard life.

All sorts of people have difficult lives, for lots of reasons.

17. Some of the wealthiest people I know
are some of the most fucked up.

Growing up in poverty you learn coping skills; growing up wealthy you learn that daddy's money solves any problems that can't be solved through charm alone.

6. I wish all drug users could use that as an excuse.
Not to knock her addiction, which I sympathize with, but I'm tired of the double standards for celebrities.

9. You have to read her book - there was alot of shit that went on in her life
and when she was raised by her mother in her younger years (Pre-Paper Moon) she was living a life of poverty. She's had a family that has given her the wrong values to live by, little support in her life and some physical abuse. Sure, she's a celebrity but the poor girl couldn't even get her family to attend her wedding.

To not have family is one of the most tragic things out there. I'm not excusing her for what she has done, just wish she was able to find that 'happily ever after' that I think all of wish we could have.

10. I understand, and that's tragic, but it's not unique.
How many people with addictions had similar or even worse stories growing up?

But I generally have a laissez-faire attitude towards drug use, so I don't think she or anybody else should be punished for it.

16. Crack gives a faster, more intense high
Also, too much powdered coke irritates the nose, causes nosebleeds, etc.

19. Actually, I've never tried coke in any form
I love booze. Pot puts me to sleep. I do not want to trip on anything, it seems scary to me. Coke and heroin/opium/morphine et al. are drugs I would really love - as in become a junkie or crackhead. I avoid them out of fear.

21. No worries,
re-reading my last reply was more serious than intended. I don't care what people do as long as I'm not effected. Lord knows I'm no angel. Cheers!
