1. I shall refrain from posting the obviously appropriate 'Fawlty Towers' clip
since I am a professional and I want to give others a chance. O8)

15. Trivia:
That was the only time after episode 14 of Monty Python that Cleese did the "silly walk." He hated it.

That was the last time.

Listen to me, smart arse — when you're king of France, you've got better things to do than go around all day rememberin' the last bloody silly walk.

2. The dude went to Greece and he expected everything to be in English?
What a twit - it shouldn't matter that the hotel made the choice to make accommodations for the Germans, unless he was specifically promised English-language service or he is fluent in Greece (and thus might expect to have been able to communicate), IMO he should have lost the case...

4. I was a bit surprised when we were in Europe last summer - I had this idea
that the 'Ugly Americans' would stand out in the crowd, but in fact there were so many 'Ugly <insert any nationality here>s' that the Americans were just lost in the shuffle...

22. Well, he didn't expect it to be German.
I think the point was that the trip was advertised as geared toward UK tourists.

"Mr Barnish, from Madeley, Stoke-on-Trent, said that the only entertainment that was not tailored to the Germans was the evening cabaret, which he said consisted mainly of Greek dancing."

Hell's bells! If I'd wanted to see Greek dancing, I'd have gone to...never mind.

18. British and German tourists come with their own set of annoyances
as I am sure do Americans do as well. In my family, we TRY HARD not to look like stupid American tourists when we travel.

Please note, I have lived in tourist areas my whole life... in Florida and now in Dubai...

23. In Greece they start learning English in grade school.
The article states that the travel company failed to explain to David Barnish that the resort catered to Germans. All of the classes and recreation were in German. The cable channels, aside from the BBC were in German.

Whether he is a rich, smug looking brit, it doesn’t matter, he was essentially not given full disclosure, in a very important matter.

It wasn’t just that there were Germans staying at the resort, it was that the resort was geared specifically to Germans.

On an aside, we met a fair number of Germans while in Greece, they are fun and that includes the propensity for exuberant speedo wearing.
