I have a bone marrow disorder that causes too many platelets to be made. Lately my platelet count has shot up to a VERY dangerous range (100-400 is normal and my last count was 1620) so I went to Mayo to see what was up. They couldn't find a specific reason but put me on a new med to control it (since at this point I am risk of stroke/clots/cardiac issues) so put me on a new med to control it:Interferon. Problem is its kind of experimental and my insurance company didn't want to pay for it. I couldn't wait because the symptoms were starting to become bad and scary..so with the help of a fellow DU'er who gave me $500 I paid for my meds (though it was a lot more than I thought..$1200).
Recently I won my appeal so my insurance company will pay for them.
I've been having a painful side effect of having swollen and painful lymph nodes in my armpits for a couple of days after injection (I inject once a week)..but the really scary symptoms are diminished.
Tomorrow I have my first post medicine appointment so I can really find out how effective it is.

I'm glad to hear you're doing better, all things considered. And that's good news about your insurance company--they're bastards usually, but it's nice to hear that you're getting their support now for your meds.

My heart goes out to you, though. My partner had to take weekly Interferon injections for a year to clear up a nasty Hep C infection, and the side effects weren't pretty. He's a rather energetic guy usually, but he became very lethargic during his treatments and had headaches most of the time. He was also very dehydrated all the time and he had some intestinal "issues" that I'm sure you don't want to hear about! He's been off of them for a couple of months now, and he's starting to get back to normal (thankfully). If you have to continue with the Interferon treatments, hopefully you won't have to take them for long.

I still think you need a spanking, but I'll give you one of these too: :hug: I hope things continue improving for you.

Anyway I hope you're intending to reward turtlensue for said bad behavior... cause... well I could be wrong but I'd think this wouldn't be much of a deterrent.
