5. When I was stationed in Germany
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 09:29 PM by CatWoman
I used to go to this disco about four nights a week.

There was this German guy who danced just like the little girl in "Charlie Brown's Christmas".

I would laugh my ass off :D

2. I generally hate to generalise, -but
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 09:24 PM by SOteric
I've met remarkably few white folks who could gracefully grace a dancefloor.

Some, but remarkably few.

On the other hand, my friend Verna (who's non-white) is remarkably devoid of rhythm and would be the first to admit it.

for the most part, white chicks can dance.

but go to a real rock-n-roll club. whoa.

you'd swear those white boys were having siezures! their spasmodic jerking of their extremities looks more like epileptic fits than dancing! (this includes me, BTW) :)

i need at least 6 beers before i hit the floor!

28. semi-fact.
there are some dances that white people can nail. such as polka.

however, i've seen some white guys hardcore dance in a pit before, they were damn good at it, and i'm pretty damn good at it myself, so...

however, when it comes to dancing to top 40 hits, white guys might as well just give up.

30. exactly
I'll put my pit dancing skills up against anyone :D

There's a gig
At 5th and Main
Gonna catch the bus
Or take the train
We'll steal or find
Or borrow cash
And we'll be there
Ready to thrash

The band kicks in
They begin to rage
No-man's land
In front of the stage
Poseurs in the bathroom
Still looking at their hair
Thrashers in the foreground
Doing what they dare

In the pit!

Thrashing and slamming
Like hell in the pit
Tomorrow they know
May not come
Banging and moshing
Like they don't give a shit
To the rapid beat
Of the drum

A boot to your forehead
A knee in your face
Your nose and lips
Start to bleed
Like a wild Indian
From outer space
Drunk and
High on weed

Guitar seems so fucking loud
People walking on the crowd
Diving off the P.A. stacks
Breaking ankles,necks and backs
Then the circle it begins
In the thrashing pit
Fist are flying
People getting hit
Tooth chippers left and right
Skinheads in another fight
Banging heads and broken jaws
Because there are no laws

In the pit!

Then you start thrashing
Like never before
Stagediving, headwalking like mad
Doing your thing
All over the floor
The best time that you've ever had

You are hurt all over
But can't feel a thing
Not until the next day
Then you wake up
Stiff as a board
And the pain won't go away

Another gig at 5th and Main
We'll catch the bus
Or take the train
We'll steal or find
Or borrow cash
And we'll be there
Ready to thrash

In the pit!

34. heheheh...mosh pit madness...stories from the pit....
i went to the earthday birthday 10 consert in orlando last april and actually got my old, tired, 36 year old @$$ up during the powerman5000 portion of the show and went right into the pit against the meanest bunch of teens and 20somethings i had seen in a while.

it was good to do a nice gorilla walk around, bump a few brave female moshers and elbow a few others untill i found a perfect 130lb victim to knock around...poor fellow turned his back on me after a rather lame attempt to knock me down, so i speared his @$$ right out of there...seeing as i had 120lbs on him...

well, this just pissed of his buddy, who was about my size but some years younger...this is where experience comes in....he tried a little sneaky lunge from the blind-side, but i had a radar lock on him from the get-go...i simply ducked and hip checked him into the crowd...right out of wwe smackdown...he took out about 6 guys on the outer wall of pit humanity...who in turn took it upon themselves to lift him up and throw him back into the pit, where he in turn was blindsided by an even bigger guy....me, i got out while the getting was good....my date was giggling about the hip check and gave me a nice little slap on the @$$ for a job well done.....old school punkers never die.....

So if I learn to dance, will I turn gay? I always suspected as much in school, when they'd try to get me out there to dance the folk dances of Upper Silesia and Lichtenstein.

On the other hand, maybe I'd look good in a leotard.

Well, being a black lady who isn't a great dancer, I can vouch that some blacks can't dance. But, we have rhythm lol.
It's like this, blacks can here and feel the beat and since I'm not white I don't know if whites have this special and unique gift. Ever really watch a black person walk?

38. People who don't like to dance, can't... this includes most white men
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 08:12 AM by ACK
Most white men can't dance because they hate dancing.

We are not perhaps subscribing to some living breathing stereotype of a black person popping out of the womb doing a freakin' jig, are we? I hope not.

If you dance alot and like to dance then you learn how to dance. You get the rhythm if you love the rhythm. Race has nothing to freakin' do with it. It ain't the genes it is the environment. Yes, I do know some black people who look retarded on the dance floor. Of course, in most dance clubs it doesn't matter that much because there is barely enough room on a weekend to do a two-part shuffle.

Personally, I took some dance classes with the wife and if they were not so expensive the wife and I would have gone for much longer.

This is pretty wank from a guy who use to consider slam dancing in the pit as high form but what the hell.

It was something we can could get into together.

50. yeah
A lot of white guys are bad at dancing because they don't feel comfortable doing it. In SOME Euroamerican cultures, that is. The Italian boys I knew growing up were pretty good at it - they had no hangups about dancing. Also, I've seen good dancers in clubs in Europe. And my dad is one of the smoothest dancers I've ever seen, because he grew up going to clubs.

If you go to a white meat-market type of club the dancing is pretty bad, though.

People should go back and watch the Super Bowl Shuffle video 100 times - they're *all* bad.

I can dance. My wife and i used to enter Disco contests (Yeah, i know!) We never finished worst than 5th and won about 8 or 9 contests.

We also did some ballroom dancing contests too. People in those contests are some odd ducks, though. Way too serious. Sucked the fun right out of it. Might be a good topic for Christopher Guest in the future.

I Got Rhythm! (Apologies to Geroge and Ira) I Can Dance (Apologies to Leo Sayer) So can my wife.
The Professor

BTW: I can jump, too. Well, not anymore because of the MS, but before i got sick, that was the single biggest asset i had on a basketball court. At 19, i was measured at 44.5" standing vertical leap. So, another myth bites the dust.

48. Utter fiction...
Define "dance".

Watch Suzanne Farrell dance a Balanchine ballet and tell me white can't people dance.

Watch Ann Reinking dance a Bob Fosse number and tell me white people can't dance.

Watch Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron dance in "An American in Paris" and tell me white people can't dance.

Are you trying to narrowly define "dance" as urban contemporary movement? I'm sure there are some white folk who do that just fine as well.

70. Those weren't parodies
frighteningly enough, those were pretty damn accurate! Remember the time he and Joe Cocker were onstage at the same time?

Mad Dogs and Englishmen, indeed!

63. This white guy can't dance. I guess that must mean NO white guy
can dance. Ostriches can't fly, so no birds can fly. Intro to Logic 101. Got a 3.8 out of the class. How'd I do?

73. of course I can dance
I was travellin' down the road, feelin' hungry and cold
I saw a sign sayin' food and drinks for everyone
so naturally I thought I would take me a look inside
I saw so much food, there was water comin' from my eye

yeah there was ham an' there was turkey, there was caviar
an' long tall glasses, with wine up to yar

an' then somebody grabbed me, threw me outta my chair
said before you can eat, you gotta dance like Fred Astaire

you know I can't dance, you know I can't dance
you know I can't dance, you know I can't dance
I can't dance

I am a man of the road -- a hobo by name
I don't seek entertainment, just poultry and game
but if it's all the same to you, then yes I will try my hand
if you were as hungry as me then I'm sure you would understand

hmmm
now wait a minute
let me see now

of course I can dance of course I can dance
I'm sure I can dance, I'm sure I can dance..
I can dance

I can dance
I really hit the floor
ah feels good
look at me dancin'

I did a two-step, quick-step and a bossa nova
a little Victor Silvester, and a Rudy Valentino
you should a seen me movin', right across the floor
hand me down my tuxedo, next week I'm comin' back for more

I can dance -- oh yes! I can dance
look at me dancin' the floor movin'
I feel good -- I can dance
I can dance, I can dance, I can dance.

74. I'm a white person and I can't dance.
And if I'm gonna dance, I want a pretty woman who smells nice to hold onto.

76. White people can't dance
Of course we can, I'm a prime example, have all the right moves and go with the music. It's a matter of what you hear in your inner voice.
