And my mom had sent me a bunch of really racist stuff about Obama. Nasty stuff. Why? She knows how I feel about racism. What was her point? She's a racist, I'm not -and she knows not to show it around me. So wtf?

1. It the way of some parents...
My mother sends me stuff about how "Jesus can still save (my) soul if I repent and confess my sins before God." and "Why Atheism is destroying civilization." I really enjoyed the Chick tracts too since she's Catholic and clearly didn't read them. Oh dear golly...she sends missionaries sometimes too. She's tried to have me exorcised, but the priest told her I have to want to be saved and I clearly did not.

5. I love the Chick tracts
One of my faves is the one that shows that reading Playboy turns you gay. My wife and I were playing an RPG at a restaraunt where we hung out all night and this guy gives us one about how RPGs will turn you into a Satanist. We had to quit playing cuz we couldn't quit laughing.

7. What kind of restaurant allows you to play RPG's?
Don't they need the table for other customers?

10. I don't know where he was...
but Starbucks will let you. We have a regular group who come in and they're a blast and they tip well.

Actually, you can pretty much show up and do anything at a Starbucks:

~We have a prayer group who show up and hand out literature and disturb other customers by praying loudly and singing and the only thing they ever order is water (because it's free) and corporate won't let us give them the boot.

~We have a book-club who show up to discuss their book.

~We're the post-ride meet-up site for an over-65 motorcycle riding group.

~People run their small businesses out of our cafe.

~We have a local math tutor for HS and college students who does all of her tutoring in the cafe.

~There's a card game on Thursday nights where we pretend we don't see money being exchanged.

It's free space and we encourage people to use it.

11. Denneys
And we had this great waitress who knew we had no money, so she would screw up orders on purpose so when they were sent back she could give them to us. So we got a lot of free food too.

16. It was a life of poverty
I actually begged in the street. Then gave it all to a homeless man - at least I had somewhere to sleep and knew I wouldn't have to go hungry.

Been rich, been poor - and rich is better.

I'm sorry your mom did that.

Now that "fuck me sideways..." comment :spray::rofl::rofl:

The one we use in our house is "fuck me running backwards up a hill"

3. Yick.
My dad's a bit of a racist but at least he knows better not to mention that kind of crap around me (for the most part).
Sounds like she still thinks you need to be "enlightened"...(I use that term loosely)

6. Repub and a Fundie.
I sent her a polite but kinda nasty email. But she's going out of town today so I won't have to face her wrath until Tuesday.

8. Ouch that's got to be tough. I have a father who is hard core GOP
we can't go 5 minutes discussing politics before an argument breaks out. We have found it's best to avoid the topic. Maybe that's what you need to do with your mother. Agree that politics is an off limit topic.

9. I often leave
angry in the middle of dinner. Like the time my dad accused me of molesting children because I'm gay! All my lovers have been at least 10 years older than me, usually more like 20. Hardly molesting children! And they're such hypocrites - I know they've done coke, smoked pot and my dad's porn collection is huge.

At least I'm honest about it.

Unfortunately parents are all too human. They can be just as wrong and screwed up as anyone else.

On a side note, you should send your father this link:

Tell him you are gay, not a Republican, so you don't molest children. ;-)
