Your favorite one or two lines from a rock song
Mine? Right now it's a tie between White Stripes' You can't be a pimp and a prostitute too

and Nirvana's I tried hard to have a father but instead I had a dad

Both say so much by saying so little

I swear I way more than half believe it when I say that somewhere love and justice shine.
Cynicism falls asleep.
Tyranny talks to itself.
Sappy slogans all come true.
We forget to feed our fear.

A couple more lines than asked for, but it's a wonderful little passage.

Fell On Black Days- Soundgarden

http://youtube.com/watch?v=yYjCSpHDdmg

Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
Whatsoever I've fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded
And now I'm doing time
Cause I fell on black days

Whomsoever I've cured Ive sickened now
Whomsoever I've cradled Ive put you down
I'm a search light soul they say
But I cant see it in the night
I'm only faking when I get it right
Cause I fell on black days
How would I know
That this could be my fate

So what you wanted to see good has made you blind
And what you wanted to be yours has made it mine
So don't you lock up something that you wanted to see fly
Hands are for shaking
No, not tying
No, not tying

I sure dont mind a change
But I fell on black days
How would I know
That this could be my fate

And I guess that's right on par

Who's left to blame?

If you were a pill, I'd take a handful at my will

Are you strung out on some face? Well, I know it ain't mine.

The Replacements, Valentine

Maybe not my favorite but the first that came to mind.

53. Which is part of the problem
With more resources they've lost some of their insecurity. What made White Blood Cells special is the hint of self-doubt that lingers in some of the songs. There's a lot of ambiguity in those lyrics. It's a very diverse record, emotionally.

She knows some folks do, but not in convenience stores and NOT with lottery tickets."
Buddy Wakefield 'Convenience Stores' (one of the best songs I've ever heard, or you will ever hear)

'So, so you think you can tell, heaven from hell, blue skies from pain? Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell
Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?'
(I shouldn't even have to say where this one comes from)

and finally

'Dear Diary...what is wrong with me?
Cause I'm fine...between the lines.

43. Simple lyric that i love - Tom Petty's American Girl
"she was an American Girl, raised on Promises"

beautiful lyrics, got to go with See How We Are, by X

There are men lost in jail
Crowded fifty to a room
There's too many rats in this cage of the world
And the women know their place
They sit home and write letters
And when they visit once a year
Well they both just sit there and stare
See how we are
Gotta keep bars in between us
See how we are
We only sing about it once in every twenty years
See how we are
Oh see how we are
Now there are seven kinds of Coke
500 kinds of cigarettes
This freedom of choice in the USA drives everybody crazy
But in Acapulco
Well they don't give a damn
About kids selling Chiclets with no shoes on their feet
See how we are
"Hey man, Whats in it for me?"
See how we are
We only sing about it once in every twenty years
See how we are
Oh see how we are
Now that highway's coming through
So you all gotta move
This bottom rung ain't no fun at all
No fires and rockhouses and grape-flavored rat poison
They are the new trinity
For this so-called community
See how we are
Gotta keep bars on all of our windows
See how we are
We only sing about it once in every twenty years
See how we are
Oh see how we are
Well this morning the alarm rang at noon
And I'm trying to write this letter to you
About how much I care and why I just can't be there
To draw your bath and comb...and comb your hair
Last night in a nightspot
Where things aren't so hot
My friend said, "I met a boy and I'm in love"
I said, "Oh really... What's this one's name?"
She said, "His first name is Homeboy"
I said "Could his last name be Trouble?"
See how we are
Ah Homeboy... Isn't that a Mexican name?
See how we are
We only sing about it once in every twenty years
See how we are
Oh see how we are
Yeah see how we are

That might be my favorite song ever.

Also don't forget this GEM from Frank Stallone in "Staying alive"

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk.
Music loud and women warm.
I've been kicked around since I was born.
And now it's all right, it's O.K.
And you may look the other way.
We can try to understand

Take Your Whiskey Home

Well, my baby, she don't want me around.
She said she's tired of watchin' me fall down.
She wants the good life, only the best.
But I like that bottle better than the rest.
And she said: I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Well, I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Well, I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
If you take your whiskey...
Well, that liquor in the nighttime leaves strange memories.
Seems a lifetime since yesterday.
Come the daybreak, come the morrow,
that woman's waited up all night for me again.
She said: Well, I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, you know that you're headed for a lot of trouble.
If you take your whiskey home.
Some goes to women, some goes to Jesus,
though I'm absolutely certain both's all right.
But it takes me at least halfway to the label
'fore I can even make it through the night.
Well, I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, I think that you're headed for a whole lot of trouble.
Yeah, you know that you're headed for a lot of trouble.
If you take your whiskey home.

70. I can't pick just one or two lines from this one.
Incubus

~~I Miss You~~

To see you when I wake up
is a gift I didn't think could be real.
To know that you feel the same as I do
is a three-fold, utopian dream.
You do something to me that I can't explain.
So would I be out of line if I said,
I miss you.
I see your picture, I smell your skin on the empty pillow next to mine.
You have only been gone ten days, but already I'm wasting away.
I know I'll see you again
whether far or soon.
But I need you to know that I care
and I miss you.

84. "Now it's one too many I've had, when I think of you..." -- song is from Hunters and Collectors

Hunters and Collectors

Stole My Thunder

You hit the road and I hit the deck
You tore your arms from around my neck
Now it's one too many I've had when I think of you

Hey you come on - take a look at me
The naked truth is exactly what you see
Take the easy way out if it's all you can think of

Oh but you stole my thunder
Oh but you stole my thunder

Gain a little bit - but you lose it again
You haven't let go since I don't know when
You were into anything you could lay your hands on
Love could never do you any harm
But I saw the lines creepin' up and down your arm
I watched you do the damage only good people do

Oh but you stole my thunder

Before the deadly secrets shared on the edge of your pillow
All the dream you whispered to me
Still alive in someone's memory
Oh yeh

Love could never do you any harm

Oh but you stole my thunder
I saw the lines creeping up and down your eyes
Oh but you stole my thunder
And I watched you do the damage only good people do

Oh but you stole my thunder
Now it's one too many I've had when I think of you

Oh but you stole my thunder
Oh yeh

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XHrclWt6ec

All that is, was and will be
Universe much too big to see

Time and space never ending
Disturbing thoughts, questions pending
Limitations of human understanding
Too quick to criticize
Obligation to survive
We hunger to be alive

All that is, ever
Ever was
Will be ever
Twisting
Turning
Through the never

In the dark, see past our eyes
Pursuit of truth no matter where it lies

Gazing up to the breeze of the heavens
On a quest, meaning, reason
Came to be, how it begun
All alone in the family of the sun
Curiosity teasing everyone
On our home, third stone from the sun

All that is, ever
Ever was
Will be ever
Twisting
Turning
Through the never

On through the never
We must go
On through the never
Out of the
Edge of forever
We must go
On through the never
Then ever comes

All that is, ever
Ever was
Will be ever
Who we are
Ask forever
Twisting
Turning
Through the never

Never

101. "Oh, it's so far the other way my life has gone" from one of my favorite songs by Jackson Browne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCjC0MhzBdU

OUR LADY OF THE WELL

It is a dance we do in silence
Far below this morning sun
You in your life, me in mine
We have begun
Here we stand and without speaking
Draw the water from the well
And stare beyond the plains
To where the mountains lie so still

But it's a long way that I have come
Across the sand to find this peace among your people in the sun
Where the families work the land as they have always done
Oh it's so far the other way my country's gone

Across my home has grown the shadow
Of a cruel and senseless hand
Though in some strong hearts
The love and truth remain
And it has taken me this distance
And a woman's smile to learn
That my heart remains among them
And to them I must return

But it's a long way that I have come
Across the sand to find you here among these people in the sun
Where your children will be born
You'll watch them as they run
Oh it's so far the other way my life has gone

If you look for me, Maria
You will find me in the shade
Wide awake or in a dream
It's hard to tell--
If you come to me, Maria
I will show you what I've made
It's a picture for our lady of the well
