Someone once started a thread where the concept was pick a great novel and turn it into a bad movie.
I have made my selection and would like to re-open this topic.

I believe that the best great novel to ruin is making a 4 hour film version of Thomas Mann's Buddenbrooks with the Baldwins cast as the different characters throughout the generations.

Harvey Fierstein as Strider/Aragorn
Rosie O'Donnell as Arwen
and Vern "mini me" Troyer in multiple roles as Frodo, Sam, Merry & Pippin.
