1. MG Jr. made me buy a box
He's at that age where he believes everything he sees on commercials...and wants to buy it all, whether he needs it or not.

Anyway, they actually aren't too bad. I think they help the bananas last longer than usual, and I've had strawberries in them forever, and they're only getting a little mushy.

The "fine print" is that you have to keep them closed, not leave them hanging open (which is what Mr. MG does constantly with the banana bag), and the fruit or veggies have to be dry before you put them in the bag.

I'd say buying a box would be a fairly good investment/experiment. You get quite a few in a box and they're washable, and tough, so you can reuse them.

5. oooo reuse
ok, I didn't know if you could reuse them. I'm so picky about what I'll spend money on and these seemed like just too much. But it's worth it if I can use them a few times!

2. There was a thread about this in V/V/AR (a.k.a. Tofu Ghetto)
and a small consensus was that they definitely work. I haven't tried them yet.

7. Just make sure everything is bone dry when going into the bag
If you open the bag later and see there is some condensation, then wipe it out.

8. Consumer Reports magazine: Thumbs down
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 10:48 AM by kay1864
Strawberries in green bags: Moldy after one month.
Strawberries in Ziploc bags: Old after one month, but not moldy.

They did say they're good for bananas though...but only bananas.

9. They're crazy
In my fridge, strawberries in plastic bag: very furry and gross after 5 days, in the green bag: they last at least 2 weeks!!!

10. Sorry, I was relying on my memory of reading it a few days ago
They used Ziploc bags, not plastic bags.

14. Really? They keep my salad mix quite nice
for about 2 weeks. I've not tried them with anything for as long as a month..the food is gone in this house long before a month goes by.

I've been having problems with the bananas. The bag gets moisture in it and I keep having to dry it out.

11. These do work.
They make my bananas, strawberries and tomatoes last way longer than if they were in a Tupperware or Ziploc. They also make blackberries last days longer without the white mold that forms on them after awhile.

13. WOW, looking at the posts here I'm buying some
My bananas that I buy on Sunday never make it until the weekend. Sounds like greenbags are the way to go!

15. I've used these for about 2 years - they really work
As another poster said, you do have to make sure things are dry when you put them in the bag. For things that tend to be really moist, like salad mixes, I add a paper towel for the first day or so. They are definitely reusable, and you just rinse them out and turn inside out to let them dry really well before using them again. Well worth the money, IMO.
