I'm jonesing for a Blu-Ray player ... any advice/experience?
Mrs. B and I love movies, and Netflix can send them in Blu-Ray. REgular DVDs on my old player just aren't the same as the cable movies in HD, but they're pricey on demand from Comcast. So I'm getting the itch for a Blu-Ray player.

Should I (a) wait until Christmas, when prices are expected to drop and more features are expected, (b) get one now, and if so, what's a good one?

1. We have one and we love it! I don't know which one it is.
I just know it is Sony. I think they are the only ones that make Blu-ray though. I think it is worth it if you do watch a lot of movies. The movies are about $10 more per movie though, but it also plays regular dvds! Good luck!

2. i have a Sony blue ray player, no complaints at all, the price was a tad high
but our dvd player died about a year ago so we figured since were buying a new tv we might as well buy the blue ray as well.

3. Surprisingly
one of the best deals on a blu-ray player now is a PlaySTation 3.

They're expensive, but the software on them can be UPGRADED, unlike a lot of other players out there. And the Blu-Ray standard isn't finalized, so there will be changes.

Plus you can play games.

4. Bingo. Also, if you don't have a 1080P TV, you won't be getting the benefits of Blu-Ray
If you don't have an HDTV, you're not getting ANY benefit from Blu-Ray (unless you have a good audio system, in which case you can get better uncompressed audio). A standard def. TV can only display 480i which is also the resolution of standard DVD.

If you're running a 720P HDTV or lower, you'd be better off sticking with standard DVD and getting a good quality upscaling DVD player such as an OPPO

If you already knew that, ignore me, if not, research some more before spending your cash.

That's why I've got the Blu-Ray bug.

7. Oppo players rock!

I've been recommending them for about a year myself, ever since I went that route.

Looks great on my 50" 1080i plasma.

I have a Sony DVD player and love it because it remembers my place in up to 6 different DVDs. I assume the Sony Blu-Ray has the same feature. Maybe others do too... a definite feature to watch for. I have another DVD player that only remembers 1 disc and it's a pain if I switch discs before finishing a movie.
