My dog's TPLO surgery was a success.
I officially <3 the staff/students at the Washington State University veterinary teaching hospital. They are AMAZING and so obviously in love with the animals.

Bodhi is doing well. TOO well, actually. He's active and already using his leg. Keeping him from moving is going to be a HUGE challenge. I Benadryled him up so I can hopefully make it the 5 hour drive home without him moving around the car much. The staff was very impressed with him, his manners, and his willingness to listen to and follow instructions from them.

He's happy to be out! I'll be hitting the road and heading home after I get the car loaded with my stuff and the 2 cats and other dog.

I am relieved. :)

2. Rough week doesn't begin to describe it. :)
I think I'll be spending the weekend starting to deal with the loss of my kitty on Monday. I haven't had a chance to process that yet unfortunately.

Off to load the car! :)

8. His leg is ooky.
Relatively late last night I noticed that his toes were cold - a good indication that his bandage was too tight and cutting off circulation. I didn't really want to take it off until Sunday, because once it's off I have to worry about both dogs licking at it, etc - and I need to re-settle and get my routine back before I have to start dealing with that - plus taking it off means icing it 4x per day for 10-15 minutes each time. Argh.

Anyway - I unwrapped the vetwrap and the gauze - it was wet and bloody. The cotton padding that was immediately next to the wound looks pretty ooky - so I REALLY didn't want to take it off. Can you imagine all the crap that will stick to that? I re-wrapped the gauze and vetwrap in a manner that is hopefully less tight. His toes this morning don't feel as cool as they did - so I'm hoping I took care of that problem. I'll have to keep monitoring him though.

I DID end up letting him sleep in bed last night. After thinking it through I decided that if he could just get on the bed he'd actually move LESS for the duration of the night. I put the ramp on the edge of the bed and walked him up it. I know the vet probably would have a heart attack - but they don't understand that once he's in bed he REALLY doesn't move until I *tell* him he can get up in the morning. He switched positions once in the middle of the night, other than that he barely moved. He almost immediately fell asleep. I know if I had not let him in the bed he would have ended up in there anyway *without* using the ramp, or he would have been up and down more during the night. It was a judgment call, and I think I made the right one.

I feel so badly for him - but he's taking it like a champ. He is teh CUTE!!111!!! :D

11. Some photos from yesterday:
Bodhi with his surgeon and student and checkout time. The student was "Jennifer Lynn" - too funny. (she's on the right)

What was under the vetwrap last night - (flash washed it out - it looked much worse in person)

Just before or after I re-wrapped him - can't remember which.

Naked butt.

I went into the kitchen for more coffee a few minutes ago. He was REALLY good because he was still laying there like I told him to. The PROBLEM was that he was still laying there probably because he'd been chewing on his fucking bandage!!! He had some of it ripped up from the top part of his leg. He's now wearing his lampshade and tearing the house up with it when he's not laying down. And he's making really pathetic noises and hating life with the plastic cone. :(

12. awww...
I didn't even think that he would be trying to tear of the bandage. He's pretty resilient though. He'll get used to life with the lampshade.

10. fantastic news. I am so happy to hear this - you needed some
good news this week, Madrone.

Drive safely! And then relax when you get home, and treat yourself well. I'm glad Bodhi seems to be fine, but I know you still need to mourn Othello.
