Can I paint over lacquered wood (furniture)?
Would I need to use a primer first?

I want to keep this easy. :)

1. You'll need to sand it first.
Otherwise, the primer and the paint will peel.

8. You can get them at the hardware store
Tell them what kinda wood so it doesn't damage it . Put on, wipe it off. You'll still need to sand but it'll be easier.

Khash.

4. Fat over thin is the rule of thumb
Fat (oil based paint) can applied over thin (lacquer based paints or finishes). You can not apply thin on fat as the solvent will dissolve the oil based paints.

5. I can tell you don't want to sand. It's an ugly, messy, tedious job.
I've had luck with Liquid Sandpaper, available @ the hardware store. You just spread it on and leave it, then you can prime and paint.

But it depends on your surface.

9. Don't sand, just prime
no reason to sand. The primer doesn't care.
