Small rant.
It's exam time again, and I'm studying for a bunch of exams, one or two of which I will probably screw up anyway. I actually try in school - I really, really do - and my average is just a bare A-minus. And here's the kicker - my IQ is apparently really high. Could've fooled me. I know a bunch of people who get A-pluses while barely studying or trying at all. I bust my ass AT LEAST 2-3 hours a night, and what do I get? Slightly above mediocore marks. And I'm apparently "smart", or so I've been told.

I apparently likely have a learning disability (NLD), but if/when I get formally diagnosed with anything, my school will probably do jack shit about it. And my marks will continue to be perfectly mediocore through next year. And I will likely miss my chance of getting into any first-rate universities.

Yeah. I'm in a bad mood and could use some hugs. Or whatever.

2. An A- is a mediocre mark?
I graduated with a solid B GPA. Nothing spectacular.
I wouldn't worry about it. You are very smart.
Trust me you can get an education at a good university with that. I didn't go to Ivy League and I've done alright for myself.

3. (((((aspie girl))))). A- is great. You'll get into University somewhere cool. And then
the whole world will open up. You are so mature. I rarely feel like I am talking to a teenager when you post. You are smart. Just keep studying. You'll do fine.

4. You're unhappy with an A- average?
Uncork yourself, kid.

5. The thing is,
An A- is only an 80-83 where I live. (Canada)

9. OK, I see better where you are coming from
and I don't want to knock your propensity to improve yourself. But I do also think, and I say this as the mom of someone on the spectrum, that one can over-focus on mere numbers. Remember that it is possible that you will receive real and effective LD assistance. My best wishes!

6. If you get into a better university based on some dodgy diagnosis
either they're going to have to continue inflating your grades, and your degree won't be worth dick, or you're going to get there and fail because you're not qualified and have displaced a student who can succeed at that level.

Not being a perfect student and actually having to work at school doesn't mean you're learning disabled, it just means that you're not exceptionally gifted. Do your best, go to a school that works for you, and for heaven's sake, stop trying to diagnose yourself. Having problems in school or life isn't automatic evidence of pathology, it's just evidence of humanity.

8. I do see your point
but a psychologist told me that I quite possibly have NLD. I have to go for more testing, though.

So, no, I am not making shit up.

10. You are looking at some US schools aren't you?
Rember that 80-83 probably translates to a A- in US terms. Your school system is superior to ours. I think you could go to a good school. There are also plenty of Universities that have great LD programs..Farleigh-Dickinson in NJ, and Frostburg College in MD, for example..my best friend growing up had LD and stuggled with grades but was highly intelligent.

11. I could give some hugs...
and I'll make "whatever" into some positive thoughts for you. Do you have teachers that would be willing to go to bat for you when it comes to college application time? Also, arm yourself with both SAT/ACT scores and an advocate if you need to.

   and positive thoughts on their way.
