grrrr...

do they still give the good cough syrup with codeine? The last time I had a cough like this, a few years ago, they gave me vicodin cough syrup. It just didn't have the same effect. The codeine stuff WORKED. The vicodin? Meh...

Is codeine on the shitlist these days, or can you still get it?

1. Yes. You can still get it.

2. Thanks
that's good news. I'll ask for it if they try to pawn off that fake shit.

3. Make sure because the other stuff is basically just Robitussin
with a huge copay.

I wish I was closer. I've got a bottle in the cabinet.

4. heheh
yeah, the vicodin stuff just never did anything. But I've had the codeine syrup twice in the past, and both times... BOOM! stopped the cough and let me sleep.

Hold on to yours - it's good to have around.

5. Gracious, yes, you should have that checked
Mr. MG had a dry cough for a couple of weeks. I finally convinced him to go to his walk-in care, suspecting bronchitis. Turned out he has pneumonia. :scared:

And they did give him cough syrup with codeine. Damn, I haven't seen that stuff since college, when the infirmary doled it out like candy just to get us to go away and sleep our illnesses off.

His didn't come with any refills, though. :(

7. yeah, my mom suggested pneumonia
because I've been running a low-grade fever. Never more than 102, usually around 100/101. She said that can be a sign of pneumonia  She's not a doc - just a mom.

yeah, the codeine syrup is good for that - and that's what I need. I haven't slept well in ages.

10. you actually need, based on my own experience a few years ago :
I was given:

a breathing treatment with albuterol mist in the office
a steroid shot in the office
a scrip for a round of heavy duty antibiotics
a scrip for 7 day Prednisone dose pac to take starting 10 days after the shot
a scrip for prescription strength expectorant (now available OTC as Mucinex)
and an albuterol inhaler to use 2 x per day to open my chest for as long as my chest felt tight.

I was a sick puppy. The doctor said I had bad bronchitis, but the radiologist who read the xrays said it was pneumonia. I was out of work a full week.

This was a doc in the box visit, of course I became ill on the weekend

They did not give me the codeine syrup. I did not care; I was so sick I could not comprehend anything more complex than Food Network

8. I'm just always afraid they're gonna think
i'm some opiate junkie or something. It's probably been 7 years since I've had codeine cough syrup, and I think I've only had it twice in my life.
