Is it wrong of me to wish to be on this woman's jury...

..and hope she gets the maximum sentence possible?

I know she has mental problems - that is obvious - but I can't help despising her. Then, part of me wonders if she's acting crazy so she can get away with it (?).

:grr:

Mom accused of abandoning son at D/FW Airport says she was with him spiritually

07:55 AM CDT on Tuesday, June 10, 2008

By JANET ST. JAMES / WFAA-TV

The mother accused of abandoning her 12-year-old son for 20 hours at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport said she was compelled to do 'God's work.'

Yolanda Munoz, 46, said she has been confused ever since her arrest Saturday morning.

"I'm not even sure how long I've been here," she said Monday.

Ms. Munoz said she can't recall the day of the week, and can barely recollect landing at D/FW Airport.

On Friday, she and her son, Brandon Newberg, arrived at D/FW Airport. They were halfway through a trip heading home to San Jose, Calif. when she said God made a plan for her.

"My plan was to do God's work," she said. "And at that moment ... it just intuitively came to me."

Ms. Munoz said she invited her son to work on the plan and doesn't understand why people think she abandoned him.

"No, I was there," she replied when asked if she walked away from her son. "I was there at the airport for him. I was there spiritually for him the whole time."

While Ms. Munoz said she may have not been there physically, she said she was with her son spiritually.

"The spiritual is much stronger than the physical," she said. " spiritual level is much stronger than any other level,"

Ms. Munoz says she could not recall leaving or returning to the airport, where she was taken into custody Saturday.

She was given a psychiatric evaluation at Parkland Memorial Hospital and later charged with abandoning or endangering a child, a third-degree felony.

Her son is in the care of relatives.

1. Yes. You have predetermined her guilt. You should be stricken from the jury pool.

5. They evaluated her and said she didn't
So I'm wondering if it's an act. But her eyes tell another story. I think you are right. After seeing the video, I know in my heart, I should have sympathy for her.

8. Yeah... but this is TX.
Kind of a bad track record here deciding which moms are or are not mentally sound, ya know?

Anyone who says god told them to abandon their 12 year old at an international airport = crazy. It's not rocket surgery. :)

12. But they released her after her evaluation
Would they keep her if she wasn't putting on an act?

13. Does she have insurance?
Remember the woman who killed all her children? She was also judged as fit to be a caretaker.

Sometimes mistakes are made. Not saying it's *always* because of money... but... well...

6. Yes, I would say it is
I don't condone what she allegedly did but I don't understand your irrational hatred and venom either. Apparently, the boy was not harmed and it seems likely the woman is delusional.

But feel free to break out the torches and pitchforks.

9. I guess it is irrational hatred and venom
And I suspected I'd get this response. Maybe I've been in Texas too long... I don't know. *sigh*
