Kitty update... happy times!
Ok so I stopped at PetSmart on the way home and got a litter box, liners, litter, scoop, cat dishes, cat food, flea spray (natural & safe for kittens), some toys, a scratchy thing, and ... that's it. The toys and scratchy thing are extras and therefore money I really didn't need to spend, but I was excited. :) (Aren't you all so very glad I go into such excruciating detail? :P)

Anyway so... on the way home I started to worry more and more that she wouldn't be there when I got home. I picked up the girls and they were so happy when I told them that I got kitty supplies, and that she'd be staying with us tonight if she was still there and wanted to come in. :) When we got home they didn't help me carry anything as they usually do, of course, cause we were all in agreement that looking for the kitty was the most important thing right then. Especially since two of the neighborhood puppies (giant huge older puppies, friendly ones) were wandering around trying to get people to pet or play with them.

So I walk around the building to the stairs, looking under bushes and up in trees, wondering if I'm going to be returning all this stuff the next day cause she didn't come back. But then I round the corner and see the girls up by the door, petting the kitty. She was waiting right by our door. Awwwwww. :D

She ate like a pig. Three bowls of kitten kibble. Not all at once, she'd go back over and over. She explored the apartment, tested some boundaries (wants to jump on tables, not having that), and did lots of playing with toys & clutter... and lots of the jumping and running around in that unbearably cute way that all kittens do. I was surprised she had so much energy considering how thin she is and how dehydrated she was. She didn't sleep for hours. When she finally did though, it made me so happy to see her so relaxed and happy. She was just radiating contentment and gratitude. Oh and she's a pretty well-behaved kitty, too... she only had to be told 'no, kitty' 5 or 10 times as she tried to get to the girls' ice cream... and she only tried the table & counter stuff once (that I saw). She did go into the fireplace though. Heh.

And now... kitty pics! It's very hard to get an even halfway decent pic of a very active kitten with my craptacular camera phone, but I did my best. Sorta. Ok not really... :P

Bouda last night, sleeping on the couch:

... and this morning, after I interrupted her meal so I could try to get a pic:

... and also this morning, on the sofa where I tried to get her to sit still for a pic, cause I think the light is better here than in the kitchen (she moved anyway):

... and a close up of her tail. I'm thinking of not mentioning this and asking anyone who calls about her to describe her tail. My ex has me worried that kitten wanters might see her pic and decide to call and pretend it's their kitty just to get a free kitty. Sounds far fetched to me, but... eh:

Oh and "Bouda" is short for "Boudica" and sounds like "Buddha". Shut up. Cats don't pick on other cats cause of their names and besides she's an indoor kitty.

Can anyone tell I'm excited? :D

10. I wish I'd have thought of taking more pics last night.
She was lying twisted halfway on her back next to my older daughter, stretched out with her arms overhead, and her face upside down... and I could have sworn she was smiling. :D

21. Aww no it isn't...
she's just a little thing, and weakened... it's easy to empathize with such a relatively helpless little animal who's now able to really relax and get some good, deep sleep... not to mention have her own people to play with ahd love her. :D

Lily KNOWS she really shouldn't be sharing his space. They tolerate each other, they don't fight but she sure likes to taunt him from time to time.

13. Bouda is such a pretty torbie
Bouda is special because SHE chose YOU. I guarantee that she'll be loyal to you for the rest of her life.

She looks about the same age my Ruby was when she adopted me, about 4 months old. She'll gain weight unless she has worms, something adopted strays often get. So if I were you, I'd go back to Petsmart to pick up dewormer, or take her to the vet to get her checked for worms. Ruby suffered for a month and a half because I couldn't afford to get her checked up until later.

I wish you and your girls years of love and fun with your new furkid. :loveya:

14. Torbie huh?
Is that what an orange/grey tabbie mix is called?

She sure seemed intent on moving in with us... tried to get in the door the next morning, after we first saw her. :)

I almost got the de-wormer, but I figured I'd check first. Wasn't sure if giving the de-wormer might possibly be harmful if she didn't actually have worms, since she's so weakened now.

We had about six months worth of love and fun the first night! :D

I kept getting distracted by the kitty while trying to go through my normal daily tasks. It was infuriatingly wonderful. :)

20. "Torbie" is short for "tortoiseshell tabby", a.k.a., patched tabby
A torbie is a cat whose coat is orange and any tabby color, but not black. And orange and black cat is known as a tortoiseshell, or tortie.

So happy for you, Redqueen! She is a beauty! You will never regret it--strays who are taken in are definitely grateful. We have three of them, and while they can be irritating sometimes, we'd never turn them into hats like we threaten to do from time to time.

And I love the name Boudica--warrior queen--one of my favorite wimmins in history. w00t!

35. Oops yes... got a comb last night too.
The first thing I did was spray her, and then I combed through her hair as she ate. Amazingly, I found hardly any dirt and *gasp* no fleas! I was worried about fleas... maybe she was just too dehydrated for them to bother with her.

Poor little thing, her hair is kinda sparse.

40. that's good, 'cuz fleas can actually kill a kitten
If a little cat is infested with fleas, they can actually get anemic.

Flea dirt signals fleas even if you don't see a live bug. It's the feces and blood droppings from fleas.

You said you sprayed her? With what?

36. Welcome from one brown-patch tabby to another
Our little monster was underfed and dehydrated, and had fleas, ticks, worms, earmites

Now she's happy like Bouda, only way fatter

And good luck with that "no getting up on tables" thing once she's sure of her place (boss) in your home.

42. Congrats on your new kitty daughter!
Bouda is adorable now -- just wait until she loses that "skinny stray" look, which will be very soon with the care you are giving her. A trip to the vet when you can afford it to check for parasites and any health problems and to start her shots, and she's all set. She certainly knows how to pick a family! :loveya:
