Poll question: The Linda's Parisian Burger. WARNING: Graphic photo of double-patty cheeseburger inside.
THE HISTORY: Linda's Drive In Restaurant in Mountain View California, in operation between 1956 and 1985, had a signature burger called "The Linda's Parisian Burger."

The "Parisian" came from Parisian Bakery, which supplied the sourdough rolls it was served on. Other than that, it was two patties with cheese, and a "special sauce"...ketchup, mustard dehydrated onions (which have been re-hydrated in water) and celery seed, allowed to blend in the refrigerator overnight).

One of my clients claims to have "THE" recipe for the long-lost burger and has added it to his menu. I went to the restaurant today and took the photo below. My reaction: The smell of the sauce was a turn-off, too "sickly sweet" in addition to a strong onion smell.

Linda's served it with Tater Tots, and my client kept the tradition. I went to the restaurant today and took the photo below so that I could add it to the Web Site. They're still working on the roll...they haven't found an exact match yet.

Your opinion?

10. The "secret" of the "secret sauce"...
...is that you need to mix it up and let it sit in the fridge for at least 24 hours.

I hear you on the horseradish...every once in a while I get a craving. Erik's DeliCafe "used to" have a sandwich called the "Barnbuster," which was nothing more than a French Dip roast beef sandwich. But the KEY to enjoying it was to get one of their mason jars full of ice (what the restaurant uses for drinking glasses) and a Calistoga water (unfortunately, they no longer sell mineral water, just plain). Then you dip the sandwich in the au jus, spread a bit of horseradish on the part you're going to bite, chomp down and wait for the tear ducts to open. Then follow it with a sip of the Calistoga. Heaven!

A little over a year ago, Erik's tried to bring the sandwich back. I ordered one, ended up sending it back without taking a bite and getting my money back. Why?

The sandwich was SWIMMING in their "new" creamy horseradish "sauce"...a thin, runny, horseradish spiked mayo mess. I asked "And THIS is supposed to get dipped in the au jus? Are you kidding?"

It lasted about a month and it was off the menu again.

6. Somehow this post seems tasteless a day after Tim Russert died.
Kinda like the NRA holding an event after a school shooting.

It's a gut feeling not a snarky observation. Of course I had pizza wings and Albertsons donuts fun dinner last night while watching the coverage on BBC so I am probably projecting guilt form my ever expanding gut. :(
