4. Datasuspect, you are very cool and I laugh at a lot of the things you post but MALE RAPE
and any RAPE is not fun. It's not funny. References to MALE RAPE aren't "hip" or "groovy". They are, in fact sad and disturbing. This is the DU lounge, not a Violent Femmes concert in 1984.

Thank you,

Lee Roy Sphits.

7. deliverance was a cinematic masterpiece
it captured the zeitgeist of an america that was struggling to find its identity in the midst of the vietnam war.

great social upheaval had taken place in and around the time that movie was made, in fact, it was one of the rare golden eras of filmmaking when directors had carte blanche to pursue subjects and ideas that once were forbidden or generally frowned upon.

your intellectual reductionism is greatly disturbing.

14. "Intellectual reductionism" LOL
You are correct and I acknowledge my just reprimand. I'm going out, just this minute to my local video store and purchasing copies of "I spit on your grave", "I spit on your corpse, I spit on your grave", "Hunter's Blood" and "Last House On The Left" just to make sure I've made a sufficient donation to the post war "zeitgiest" (or whatever confused jackasses like you want to call it).

But haven't you forgotten the Surf-Nazis and Leroy's Mama? Yes. You have.

Now fall on your sword.

ETA "Children: actually is a classic and should be mandatory viewing for all by age 10.

10. how could I ever forget the wrestling in undwear?
I remember going over a a friend's place (the apartment was already a strange place.... it was a live/work space with just a public bathroom down the hall, for instance) to watch "Even Dwarves Started Small" projected onto this massive wall (I think the ceilings where about 20 ft in there). While this was going on, two girls were in the room wrestling in their underwear. It's about as torn as I've ever been in my whole life - what do I watch? Where do I turn my head? I'll never forget the confusion/joy of that evening.

9. Ok thanks ... I am just hormonal right now ...
People say I am like my mom all the time and the one trait of hers that I wish that I did not have was not being able to trust men.I have a great guy and we have been through a lot of shit to get to where we are now.Every now and then I feel like I am being tested in a way and this is just one of those things.I know sometimes I need my time away from him and he needs time with the boys.If he did'nt have any friends then I would worry.Ok I am going to bed now.I am just way too hormonal beyond words.Need choco.

I do occasionally have a guy movie night though.

11. When the screen is really, really big, hell yeah
We did Blade Runner recently at my house with a projector we borrowed from the school, a king-sized white bedsheet tacked to the ceiling, and my, ah, significant surround sound system.

It. Was. So. Cool.

Plus, beer. :D

12. I think it's probably very common
My friends and I watch movies pretty frequently. I think it's especially the case for guys who are fans of a specific genre. I'm not the world's biggest horror fan, but I have friends who are, and we can spend a whole evening watching horror movies, no problem.

Rent a bunch of movies and invite our male friends over. Don't know about straight guys, though.

Oddly, we had some cool lesbian friends but never invited them on those nights - I guess it was just a guys hanging together thing.

Khash.

But, with Kirsten Dunst, Gabrielle Union and Eliza Dushku, it's one of my guilty pleasure movies.

26. Movies? Not really.
I've gone to the theatre with buds before, but we don't ever have "movie nights"....although we do do it as couples. Mostly when the guys get together, we play video games, barbeque, or just shoot the shit (coffee and beer nights). Don't watch movies specifically though. My girlfriend like dumb, explosion movies so I usually go watch those with her, and sometimes my brother (similar taste in movies).

That's a vital part of hanging out. Drink beer, watch TV, often put in a movie when nothing good is on. Fire up a bong if you like.
