Do they still sell regular old, plain TVs?
You know, the ones you could buy for $100 or thereabouts?

We wanted to get a regular 13 inch TV for the baby's room so that we can watch TV while we are rocking her to sleep and stuff, or when she gets older she can have one of her own. It's not for our living room. It doesn't have to be special.

But I went to the electronics superstore today and all I saw were massive plasmas, LCDs and Blue Rays, all for ridiculously high prices. Even the smaller 13 inch and 19 inch versions of those TVs were like $300-$400. I think there were a grand total of two or three traditional televisions still for sale, and they were all off brands. I was looking for something maybe by JVC, Panasonic or the like.

Has the world changed that much that they don't have just an ordinary, plain old TV for a spare room anymore?

2. I thought about that....
....but a) we have cable and b) I didn't think the digital changeover required you to buy a HDTV.

5. Well, that's just a bitch.
It hasn't even been that long since I last bought a TV....probably 3-4 years ago. TVs had gotten to the point where you could probably buy a good name brand 19 inch for around $100. Now?

Just another thing to rip us off.

4. I saw a couple in Target last week
They weren't very expensive either. I was looking for a small HD TV for our daughter to watch her DVDs on in her room and was very tempted to get one of those instead. But my husband nixed the idea. He wants another HD TV so that we can eventually hook up a computer to it for her as well.

6. Check your local Craigslist.
People are usually giving away TV's.

8. I was going to say the same thing.
If you're anywhere near Philly, we'll be giving away at least one television in September. :)

10. I saw a couple by the dumpster... I would check your local apartment dumpsters...
Kinda like those old 50 pound computer monitors.

11. Perhaps a better question then:
Are there any 13 inch HDTV style flatscreens under $200 from a name brand? That I can purchase legally and not out of somebody's trunk?

12. Keep the tv out of the nursery.
If you're watching tv while you're taking care of the baby, then you're not taking care of the baby.

Do the baby a favor, and keep the tv out of his/her room.
