Let Sen. Obama know you support same sex marriage:
Petition in support of same sex marriage to POTUS candidates Senators Obama and McCain from the Care2 Petitions site:

"The California Supreme Court recently deemed denying same-sex couples the right to marry unconstitutional, paving the way for same-sex marriage in the state. New York's governor David Paterson also recently decided to recognize same-sex marriages lawfully performed in other states and countries. These are important steps in the ongoing fight for marriage equality.

Every couple - regardless of sexual orientation - deserves the benefits that marriage brings, including equal rights to health care and the primary caregiver status. Voice your support of same-sex marriage to presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama."

8. I can't believe we're in the 21st century and this is still an issue
shame on us. We should be over this kind of immature discrimination by now.

12. America indeed has a lot to be embarrassed about.
This will be a good step in the right direction. Another good step in the right direction will take place on Feb 12 2009 in Washington DC when a half black, half white President Of The United States Of America, Barrack H. Obama rededicates the Lincoln Memorial on Abraham Lincolns 200th birthday! Yeah...it took 200 years of pain, discrimination, hate, bigotry and death to get here...conservatism is the worst thing to ever happen to our nation. Those who fight for equality, for dignity, for our freedoms are to be commended and celebrated, instead they are denigrated by spoiled fearful children in adult bodies. Sorry for the rant...you are right of course, we should have been over this long ago.
Thank you very much for signing the petition.

20. Swag a moment please, my apologies for not saying this earlier.
You are correct. This IS the lounge. Your point is not lost on me. I thought about it before posting this request here. The Lounge means many things to many people and I was concerned that I was making a bit of a faux pax-(sp?) by posting this here because the Lounge truly should be a break from things we have access to elsewhere in the DU. This is the lounge, not the photo forum..nor the gun forum nor LBN nor scads of other forums.

This does not mean that we are restricted to discussing Kittehs or recipes...everything is OK here but I DO/DID feel I was pushing it a bit by posting this here. I AM quite pleased by the results in the Lounge...the petition got more than a few votes from our fellow Loungers who may or may not have run across this elsewhere. I see this as evidence that I did the right thing posting this here regardless of my earlier hesitations.

This topic was posted both in GBLT and GD and then upon reflection posted here in the lounge because I sought votes for a worthy cause. Truth be told, I suspect I have irked more than a few here but they were not as outspoken as you. I hope you can understand that my motives were nobel, and I apologize for any inconvienience.... I further apologize for my earlier reply to you..it was truly unwarranted snark on my part and I do not feel that you deserved this from me.

I'll allow this thread to pass when it loses interest here and not kick it further than this and my next post lower in this thread.

21. A BIG THANK YOU FELLOW DUers
We got more than a few signers to the petition. It is good to know that so many of my fellow DUers are for Equal Marriage Rights. This petition will remain active in the lounge for as long as the loungers choose to keep it bounced. I am quite pleased by the response it got overall...you folks are the greatest. Thank you again.
