So, I Got A Ticket Today For Hit & Run On A Domestic Animal

I was coming home late last night from a small town a few miles away driving down this dark country road and as I was going around this curve a little pig ran right out in front of me. I tried to swerve and miss it, but I hit it pretty solid. Even though I had slowed down for the curve I was probably doing 45 or 50 and when I hit it , it must have flown 15 or 20 feet off the road. Well, I stopped and got out and checked the front of my car and there wasn't any damage so I just went home. Then this morning a County Sheriff knocked on my door and issued me a citation for a notice to appear in court. I told him the it ran out in front of me and that I attempted to avoid hitting it, but apparently if you hit any pet or livestock you're supposed to check the condition of the animal and try to locate the owner whether or not it's been injured. Then I asked him how did they know for sure I was the one who hit it, he said "The pig squealed."
