We went to Costa Rica. Our itinerary was to hang out in the capital, San Jose, for a day and then travel to an eco-friendly resort on the coast for the rest of the two weeks, then back to San Jose for a night. We got married on a Saturday; Sunday morning I woke up with the sniffles; Monday morning I had a full-on cold...and we had something like a seven- or eight-hour flight.
Because of the cabin pressure and the recycled air, by the time we got to Costa Rica, my cold had turned into a sinus infection--a REALLY BAD one. I suffered in the San Jose hotel overnight, with Mr. MG saying over and over again, "That's it--we're going home," then we spent almost our entire free day the next day trying to get medical help instead of touring the city.
All I can say is THANK THE GODS FOR GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE. There was a huge medical complex in the center of the city; we walked around for a bit till we found the clinic designated for non-citizens. It was quite nice, and I got seen right away. Mr. MG dragged out his rusty Spanish, and after a few misunderstandings, we got the doctor to understand I had a sinus infection and needed "antibioticos" desperately.
She prescribed "antibioticos" the like of which I had NEVER had before--so powerful they completely knocked me on my ass (and made me sick to my stomach if I didn't eat a giant meal before I took a pill). But my sinus infection was gone in two days, and we enjoyed the rest of our honeymoon.
Our hotel was rather rustic (the way we like it), but since you're in a 4-star hotel, do they have a doctor on call? They might be able to help. Hope you feel better soon, JCMach1. Sending healing vibes so you can enjoy the rest of your vaca! :hi:
