Do You Feel Like Society is About to Break Apart into Chaos?
Has anyone noticed a substantial increase in hunger that has come about since the oil, defense, and religion industries infiltrated our white house, congress and supreme court.

I work in a rural Idaho counseling practice where we deal with a lot of elderly folks, disabled adults, children from difficult families and people who suffer from mental illness of various types. Over the past 6 months I notice exponential increases in the following:

1. Far more people are running out of food far more frequently

2. Huge numbers of people are forgoing dental and medical care even if they have social security and medicaid.

3. I am increasingly forced to give away food and buy people things that have to have to survive.

4. It is scaring the hell out of me how children are suffering and how talk of suicide is increasing.

5. More people are poaching deer and elk and moose and taking salmon out of the rivers illegally to feed their families.

6. More people are hording guns and preparing for doing whatever they have to do to survive.

I'm scared and frustrated. I spent $400,00 per month for gas mostly just to get to work. My bosses keep cutting my pay because they get less and less real income from Medicaid and government grants. Meanwhile, the congress and the white house are giving billions to oil companies making record profits and spending defense dollars like they plan to take over the world. I feel an impending total breakdown in the social fabric.

I feel that we are at the breaking point. Am I nuts?

5. No - I'm an agnostic - don't believe in prophecies
I am a bit of a pantheist though and Mankind has become a force of nature of frightening proportions

7. Ah I was only joking...
someone's been posting about the 'prophecy' in LBN. I think it's funny. :)

As for a serious response... no idea.

4. You are not nuts
I've been feeling that way lately, too. I get more agitated when I watch what Congress is doing, but can't seem to get away from it short of smashing the TV into smithereens.

10. I sure Hope so - But Remember what happend to Aberham, Martin, John and Bobbie
The real power is located in the corporate military industrial complex and the president is just a figurehead to make the masses feel in control when, in fact, we are pawns. Pawns get sent into wars and work for the king and Queen. But several pawns can turn on the king. In order for that to happen though the pawns have to realize that the game does not have to be two sides one against the other - Democrats/ And Republicans. And then there are radicals like me who think the best thing to to do is smash the chessboard and start over with the pawns making the new rules.

15. I'll consider believing that on the day
Cheney and Bush are marched OUT of the White House in handcuffs. Unless the people act, their game is just at half-time..

8. Not nuts. Maybe a little overly pessimistic, but maybe not. Feels like 1992 to me.
I was more worried then, but maybe because I was younger. But a lot of what's happening is exactly what happens when the economy is in trouble. Crime increases, people get more desperate, and all the stuff you mention happens. Homelessness increases, mental illness crimes due to lack of treatment, a general sense of fear and despair that leads to more gun ownership, militias or other extra-government survival groups, religious extremes...

Clinton saved us in the 90s. Maybe Obama can do it this time. Or maybe we'll hit a depression like the 30s again. Or maybe we will collapse as the Roman Empire in Europe collapsed during the fifth century. Unlikely on the last one, though.

Hard times. They happen. Somehow, they seem to happen a lot more often when conservatives take over.

12. When reason is against you
it's good to have God on your side. Not a criticism of believers, just a comment on how crooks like to claim God supports them because they have no other way to convince people they are right.

14. Yes and God is a Convenient social construction
That construction can be used for good or evil. I find it strange that it seems more often to produce evil than good. But seeing the world in black and white, as fundamentalists do, seems to be the best path to evil. That's sad.

9. Thank you for everything that you are doing. I am not gonna
Waste my breath commenting on what is happening. Until I can change it.

But you, yes, you are changing it. Every time you help someone get SOMETHING, you are helping out a lot.
