Interesting Political Conversation...sorta
Last night, I was with a certain female friend. We were in a park setting where many others we also. This female friend was a die-hard Hillary supporter and from time to time, we would playfully argue who's candidate was "better". Well, last night was another one of those days. We were in the middle of the discussion going back and forth when this lady.. approx in her 50's I'd say came up beside me where I was sitting and leaned around my shoulder. It startled me, but what she said made me speechless. The conversation went as follows:

Lady: Who are you?
me: excuse me??
lady: what's your name?
me: "1awake".. can I help you?
lady: Are you thinking about voting for that Obama?
me: um.. yes.
lady: He's going to kill us all.
me: ....
lady: Maybe you should research things about him. Like maybe.. HIS MIDDLE NAME!
me: Whats it matter what his middle name is?
lady: It's HUSSEIN! Did you hear.. HUSSEIN! Don't you get what that means???
me: It means nothing; Look, not to be rude, but I'm trying to spend time with my friend so..
lady: It means he is in league with those terrorists! He is their best friend and they have it all planned out to get him in office so they can use him to kill us all!
me: That's the stupidest... (interrupted)
lady: We are all going to either be dead or close to it if he becomes president!

.. at this point we got up and left. I was not going to have a confrontation with a female (sorry if that sounds sexist) and I could see a verbal argument would amount to a waste of time.

I have had people disagree with me before.. some even loudly.. but never anything as ignorant as this. Is this a common thing or was I just lucky to come across the local nut?

1. A guy I know
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 01:07 PM by regularguy
who is a pretty decent guy (except for his politics, of course) was trying to engage me in a conversation about how Obama is some sort of secret agent sent to destroy the country or something. I told him to just stop; that I'm not even gonna have this silly conversation. When he was leaving he said something to the effect of "Well I hope you're right about Obama", as if we had had a discussion weighing two reasonable points. Pretty maddening, I tell ya!

3. I would have quipped "And I hope you remember to take your medication this evening" or something.
But then, I'm a people-person.

2. I've talked to people who said they were afraid of Obama gettin in. I think more people
are afraid, if not of McCain, then of the GOP.
