Thunder?!?!
I swear, it's the apocalypse.

The last couple days here have been hotter than hell. It's actually been HOTTER here along the coast than inland, which is unheard of.

This morning, by 10:00am, it was already stifling hot. Then... a large cloud moved in. It's still over us. And for an hour or so it let out some thunder, than a bit ago, one GIANT boom.

Now we don't get thunder here this time of year. We don't summer storms (this cloud dropped a few drops - that's it). But we do NOT GET THUNDER IN THE SUMMER! And it's still a billion degrees out.

1. The weather is SO fucked up
106 here in the Valley.

We were going to go to the beach for a little relief, but it's 90 in Malibu! :wtf:

So air conditioning it is.

2. It's been strange here, too.
Except for a couple days a few weeks ago, the temperature has been relatively mild for this time of year. Also, once a week or so we get a wild thunderstorm. A few have sprouted tornadoes, and THAT'S unheard of for this area.

3. oh great... lightning strikes starting fires
TRABING FIRE: Lightning causing more fire concerns across county
Sentinel staff report
Article Launched: 06/21/2008 01:16:43 PM PDT

Updated 2:05 p.m.

SANTA CRUZ - As fire fighters worked to get the Trabing Fire under control today, the weather took a dramatic shift with storm clouds dropping a bit of rain across the county and thunder and lightning rolling through the area.

Lightning strikes starting grass fires around the county, including in the area near where the Trabing Fire damaged homes and forced evacuations Friday.

Lightning struck at about 12:50 p.m. today at the Morning Sun Ranch on the 800 bloc of Calabasas Road. Most of the animals at the horse ranch were evacuated Friday, and helicopters and water tenders are in the area fighting the blaze. There is heavy brown smoke lingering over the treeline.

A worker at the Cactus Corner Market at White Road and Freedom Boulevard (which stayed open Friday to give residents water), described the thunder storm as "pretty big."

"We can smell the smoke really strong again," said the woman, who would only identify herself as Ann. "It was weird, kind of like that heat lightning that's kind of quirky."

4. I've been describing this to Connonym
and she's just laughin' at me. :(

I've tried to explain to her that in Kollyforniya, the temperature doesn't drop 15 degrees in an hour and a half as a thunderstorm rolls in. It just doesn't HAPpen.

And she's laughin' at me.

5. Well, it's the gay marriage thing, obviously
God's Divine Taser is busy smiting all the frolicking homosexual sinners. By, uh, setting fire to the bushes and brush. Giving them all time to evacuate while firefighters put the fires out.

But it irritates their ASTHMA something fierce!

You should be THANKFUL, THANKFUL I SAY, God's Earthquake Machine is in the shop with a burnt-out bearing. But when that bearing comes in.... oh, man....

How many fundies have fled California in the past four or five days?

we just had an emergency alert warning - the whole county is under a severe thunderstorm watch for another 8 hours.

This is just the weirdest day.

12. no thunder in the summer?
hell, here, it's not a summer day unless there's been a scary looking thunderhead with high winds, which drops a millionth of an inch, and raises the humidity to about 200%

13. Yeah
I'm from New York - I miss the summer thunder storms. But we really just don't have them here.

It's very rare we get thunder at all, but if we do, it's usually in the autumn and winter.

It's still going on here, and it's just bizarre.
