2. I only heard one song, but I think it's really fantastic
Someone on here compared it to Nico, which I think isn't totally off, though it's hard to compare things separated by 40 years. It's the absolute opposite of American Idol and all of this bullshit vibrato crappy show-off singing. Her singing just sounds like a woman singing songs that she likes, and I think there's something very fantastic and liberating about it. I read a bit of an interview with her about it, and she basically said "this record producer wanted me to make this album, and I thought it would be fun, so I did". It's not some kind of attempt to become a giant popstar - I'm sure they could have done that if they'd wanted, but they didn't. There's not choreography in the videos that I've seen either.... all great things. Maybe I'll buy the record.

4. what song did you like? i bought the album on iTunes and have them all

I disagree about it being the opposite of the AI business.
There was a LOT of Hollywood $$$ spent on the making this record, marketing it to the pubic on the cover and in the pages of glossy pop mags (see Nylon, Spin, Blender, Entertainment Weekly, People, etc), and she already has a huge global fan base. That IS American Idol - she is an American idol.

Is she a musician? No
Can she sing? No
Is she a songwriter? Not really (90% of album is co-written or cover songs)
= American Idol.

Its manufactured, big bucks, hollywood confusion.
But she is a good actress and a knockout!!

=)

3. Oh, she's just trying to prove herself to Alanis Morrisette's ex..........
She can't sing, she can't act.

Do people see that she's way overrated yet? Being Woody Allen's muse only gets you so far.

5. The thing is, if you're going to have the balls to cover Tom Waits, you'd better be damned good.
And she's really not.

6. For a really good actress/singer check out Zooey Deschanel
I was hoping the Scarlett project would be better than it is. I don't hate it but I'll probably never listen to it again. Zooey's project on the other hand I listen to almost once a day. I knew she had a good voice from some of her movie roles but when the album came out I was mesmerized. It's like Stone Poney era Linda Ronstadt. Bonus points for writing the songs herself.
