NEVER, EVER see The Happening! it's a god-awful movie! (spoilers)
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 08:52 AM by charlie and algernon
First off, I love cheesy horror movies, I love horror movies in general, I'll even watch those pieces of crap 'original sci-fi movies' on the sci-fi channel. I like Mark Walberg movies and I've liked M. Night's other movies, but this movie was pure crap! Being a horror, sci-fi movie junkie, I can even accept the premise of plants releasing toxins that make people kill themselves, but at least make the attempt at making a decent movie. "hmm, I think the plants are trying to kill us. I know! Let's run through a big open field with lots of plants!" ugh! That's not an actual line, but you get the picture. Mark Walberg either forgot how to act or was given such awful lines that there was nothing he could do to improve upon them. This is the first movie where I laughed out of the stupidity of the movie and started to text message my brother in the middle of it. Other people sitting near me looked utterly bored. Do NOT see this movie, it is a total waste of money.

1. You might want to put a spoiler alert on that.
Some folks get uptight about that kind of thing.

8. Sucked that badly, huh?
Heh... AICN tore "The Love Guru" a new one (or four!) and couldn't resist tearing "The Happening" a new one IN their "Love Guru" review! Misery loves more misery...

4. i really liked the sixth sense
I thought it was a decent horror movie with some good jump scenes, I'm also one of the few who actually liked "the Village" and "signs", but at least in those movies, the acting was good. William Hurt and Jaquin Phoenix were able to sell their lines. The script in The Happening sucked and Mark Walberg sucked at trying to sell it.

5. I sorta liked "The Village" but had a major bone to pick with that one
In the Philadelphia Metro area there are no wooded areas so big in size that an entire village of people could hide themselves from society. I would have bought that plot moreso if it was perhaps the western part of the US or at least Northwestern PA where the Allegheny National park is pretty large in size.

6. do they actually acknowledge that it takes place outside of Philly?
I know it was filmed outside of Philly. Really any place in the "T" could accomadate a small village and not be seen if you have an agreement with the FAA not to fly planes over that area. You go northeast of East Stroudsburg or north of Lock Haven, there are some big patches between towns.

7. I'm a horror junkie too

Usually horror movies are interesting no matter how bad they are but I don't think this counts as any genre I'd want to watch. I've gotten the idea it SUCKS.

The way things go now though I bet it'll still make tons of money and end up winning some random award somewhere x( people really seem to like CRAP.
