Need some dieting advice
Ever since my divorce, I couldn't care less about my weight, or how high it went. I'm a big guy.. I always averaged around 215 at 6'2" (lift weights). Well Since the "D", I became depressed and gained a significant amount of weight. It took me some time.. to long, but I feel ready to move on and get healthy.

My question is, does anyone know any good sites on the net concerning dieting, healthy foods etc that I can use to help my progress? I'm not much of a cook but am willing to learn. In August, my 3 kids will be coming home from their visit with their mother so I'd like to be well under way with this so I can somewhat include them on this life style change.

Thanks,

~1awake

1. I like Zen Habits, he has several good articles.
He just compiled them all into one post, which I found extremely helpful:

http://zenhabits.net/2008/06/best-tips-getting-in-shape/

It includes weight loss and getting in shape tips.

Good luck to you. After quitting smoking and then becoming immobile for the past 5 weeks with a bad ankle sprain, I am putting on the pounds too. Small changes first, remember. Don't try to do everything at once. Cut out fast food first, maybe. Wait a couple weeks until you're totally used to that, then cut out soda. Etc.

3. Another idea to consider... Men's Health TNT diet
It is low-carb, but not extremely so. You eat carbs when you exercise. It also emphasizes eating lots of veggies. I have found it allows me to drop weight & keep it off without feeling hungry. Two main points make sense to me:
1. If your body has excess carbs, it turns them into fat. If it doesn't have excess carbs, it starts burning fat.
2. Foods (such as nuts) that are rich in fiber, protein and healthy oils satisfy your hunger better and longer than an equivalent number of calories from carbs.

I know there is a lot of anti-low-carb sentiment out there, but I found this to be a good plan.

4. Good on you for taking this step. DU has a Weight Loss group, so
check them out. Good supportive bunch there.

Also from my own POV: Weight Watchers is the way er weigh LOL

I lost 58 pounds on WW and I am just 5'4" so I was carrying quite a load around.

WW teaches you how to eat healthy and provides tremendous support and tools.

I never ever felt deprived during the whole time. I am a Lifetime WW now which really only means that I weigh in once a month and if I am more than 2 pounds over goal, I have to pay for meetings until I get back down under goal.

All other things I tried for weight loss were no good but WW worked.
