I've got a slightly better quality mp3 of it http://www.stickmanltd.com/practicesessions/hurtfinal.mp3">here. For some reason none of the video editing programs I was using could properly put the microphone sound into the video, so the video is just what the cheap little mic in the camera picked up.

My voice has always been a little too rock for classical and a little too classical for rock... so I gotta find a style that works with that. I'm thinking maybe black metal might work. :P

41. Nah... you'd have to gargle with razors and broken glass for YEARS
to achieve the kind of noise that's required for 'black metal'.

Maybe something bluesy?! You already have the 'sound' down, and you already handle the guitar well...
May not be "money" in it, but there is soul...

42. Not the screaming kind, the kind where they mix metal and a more orchestral/classical sound
I guess they've split off enough that they're calling it 'symphonic metal' now according to wikipedia. :)

Paul Anka
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_MzRxDUeMI

These are all great covers. Like I said elsewhere re Rolf Harris doing Stairway to Heaven, the best covers are done by those who do the song in their own style. This is why Jessica Simpson's "The Boots Were Made For Walkin'" is so awful, because she really doesn't have a style to start with and tries to sound like the original. Some credit has to be given, though, to a vid that's better with the sound off than on.

In parting, here's probably one of the weirdest covers ever, another "Teen Spirit." You'll either love it or hate it. I think it's great.

I know who they are but not sure what they look like now. I assume that is Randy California that sings, and Steve Howe on the acoustic but who is on the Flying Vee? Kreiger? Leslie West? Alvin Lee? etc.....Been a long time since I saw any of them in person and like me, they might have changed a little since the 70's......

A more jazzy approach than the others, and his guitar player seems to favor a David Gilmour-ish solo over Jimi Hendrix, but an interesting interpretation anyway.

Written about the 1927 Mississippi Flood
With his wife Memphis Minnie on lead guitar, Joe McCoy laid down this seminal cut which much later became a hit for Led Zeppelin. A true folk blues original, this song sounds as sweet today as it did in 1929.

69. Battle of New Orleans...
Johnny Horton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyXrxfjEOhs
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=payfcPZjwuM

What's funny is that my parents used to listen to the Dirt Band version, but when I started going to fraternity parties, they were always playing the original

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin' on
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We looked down the river and we see'd the British come.
And there must have been a hundred of'em beatin' on the drum.
They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring.
We stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eye
We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well.
Then we opened up with squirrel guns and really gave 'em ... well

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.**

We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.**

Though there's no question that Janis "owns" that song.

Mindbending: a gospel song written by a Buddhist Jew. No wonder I love it.

Edited to add lyrics:

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah
