Need help with computer question!
I just got a new system and I find that it won't allow me to copy and paste at all(it's shaded out). Does anybody have a suggestion that I could try?

1. Can you give more specifics about what program, computer, what you are copy-pasting?

2. thanks! I just got a Lenovo desk top pc.
When I go under "edit" from anywhere the cut, copy, paste options are shaded out, not just at a particular website.

Just got this system installed by a professional, as I am not a techie.

4. That usually indicates that nothing is actually selected to copy or on the clipboard to paste.

8. Try Ctrl+C or right clicking on the selected text instead of using edit.

10. If it's in a Flash file, it's technically separate, even though it's displayed in the browser
So the edit in the browser won't apply to it.

11. Any reason why the copy paste function doesn't work in edit on my system?
It's worked on every pc or Mac I have ever used, so I can't figure it out...

12. Not sure. Does it show in Edit when you select regular text on a webpage?

13. Do you mean in the body of the text ? I actually haven't tried that.
My biggest interest was in copy and pasting stuff in emails and here at DU. It seemed so easy and effortless before, both on a PC and a Mac, so I didn't believe that I wouldn't be able to do this.

If I was to select your last message for instance, the copy/paste function is fine. Isn't that strange?

15. No, that makes sense.
Certain elements within the web browser, such as Flash, are technically separate programs that run within the web browser. So for example when you select the URL within a YouTube video, it's Flash, no IE that you're copying from, so the Edit menu in IE won't workl.

3. Copy will be greyed out if nothing is selected.
Select some text then click on Edit and see if it's available.

5. You have to highlight some text before copy and paste will open.
