My neighbor's 16-year old son is a genius!
I recently downloaded IE 7...

And then my problems began!

I couldn't get my favorites list to pop up...

Everything was slow...

I was so damn frustrated!

So.....

I called my neighbor...

And his son came over, and he showed me how to fix my computer!

All is well again!

What a relief...

:woohoo: :woohoo:

1. First error...downloading IE7
The best fix for that is FireFox 3.0. :)

3. My dear Maestro!
Well....

I did ask him about that...

He felt that FireFox was about the same...

But he showed me that I had the wrong version of IE7...

Plus I need more memory...But that's a separate issue...

Now, it's working!

Ditch IE7 and use Firefox, they are NOT the same.

IE7, aka Internet Exploder Version 7 is a pile of steaming Bush crap...

www.mozilla.com

Seriously Peggy.

IE (any version) =

Although I like SeaMonkey better than Firefox it's just my personal preference. They are both equal functionality-wise. Firefox is what you should have, Peggy!

I hear ya, sweetie!

But I cut my computer teeth on IE, and I'm used to it...

And now it's running really well...

Someday, I will try out Firefox, I promise...

Aren't you happy that my computer's working???

10. Of course I am happy that your computer is working!
It would probably work BETTER, and not STOP working if you weren't using IE though.

Just FYI - it's not a zero sum game. You can try FF and keep IE.

I am VERY happy that your computer is working for you again, however. I know how annoying it is when stuff's not working - and I have to fix computer related issues for a living. Some days I want to pull my hair out.

27. Firefox 3 uses less memory than IE
IE is a notorious memory hog and an abuser of system resources in general.

So not having enough memory really isn't a separate issue.

Actually, I'm still using the last version... I like to adopt late so that everybody else has to deal with whatever bugs pop up.

But this being Firefox, I'm not expecting a whole lot of 'em to begin with.

but this time I wanted to be part of download day so I installed it on the first day figuring I could drop back to the previous version if there was a problem. So far, not one.

19. IE7 does rather blow..
but If your use to IE then stick with it till you have time to experiment. FF is much better, but not if it becomes more trouble than it's worth to figure it out right now. Good Luck!

34. The Firefox interface looks just like IE
Except instead of favorites, they're called bookmarks. There's a lot of cool stuff under the hood but you don't need to fool with any of that at the start in order to get the benefits of
a) less memory usage
b) faster page loading
c) more stable
d) more secure

Here's a screen shot so you can see the interface similarities:

Best of all, it happily coexists with IE so you can keep IE around. I do.

When you load Firefox, it will copy all of your IE settings over (passwords, favorites, etc.) so it's extremely easy to get going.

Since you use one browser to download another, I would do it while your IE is running well.

IE 7? Seriously? Really? Do you want your computer to be infected with viruses and spyware, or are you just nostalgic for Microsoft and their increasingly buggy wares? :P

Get yourself firefox 3, safari, or opera 9.5, and pronto!

IE 7 belongs on no one's computer (the computer god himself, Bill Gates, doesn't use IE).

or just get linux or a mac and never deal with stupid IE again....

30. My dear crimsonblue...
Whoa...

A little history might be appropriate, I think...

Several years ago, I didn't have a computer at all, and so my brother took the left-over parts from his and put them together for me...

He brought it down here (from NoCal) and set it up.

It included IE.

So, I've always used it, and believe me, I do have good security systems...

I am used to using it.

Change is hard for me!

My husband has Macs and I've used them...

I don't care for how they work...

So.........

This is why I have IE!

:P

33. Just go to google, type in firefox, and download it and install it
I never use Internet exploder :)

A bit of info: IE and Firefox are basically programs that allow you to visit web sites and view them (like DU). IE comes with windows, but it is really crappy IMHO. Firefox is free and a lot more secure and can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Just try it out, you can still have IE as well (and some people use both).
