I may be scarce around here these next few weeks

Well, i guess really i've already been scarce for a while now...

But don't worry - it's not you, it's me! ;)

I am working on a boatload of analyses right now for my research, and i need to have everything done before i give a talk at a conference later this month... i am also buried in TA responsibilities, have to finish all my labwork before my grant runs out on 7/31, and getting married in 2 months!!!

That bang you just heard was my head exploding. :crazy:

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hi, because i miss you guys! :hug:

Not too bad..although last week I felt really bad from my meds for some reason. But otherwise okay..and working on a kewl new project at work....

That is neat! :D

I was just looking at a paper where they did some kind of luminescent tag on chromosomes - it was called GISH (genomic in-situ hybridization)... was that like this?

Except we are tagging antibodies, not chromosomes--its way cool. We are replacing our traditional ELISA's with them!

YAY!!! Congrats! When is the conference?

I was up in the air about doing a poster or a talk for my conference - I ended up going with a talk because i'm cheap, and my department doesn't have a poster printer. Doing one at Kinko's is like 80 bucks! :rofl:

You'll have to show me your poster once it's made! :D

It's my first time...I'm going to need much assistance fro my thesis adviser, she's done this a brazillion times. I think my school's printing dept. can do it. Right now I'm working on getting the Econ Dept. to pay for my conference registration.

I actually really love doing posters - there's usually a session where you get to stand by it, and people come around and chat/ask questions. I've had some fantastic conversations at poster sessions. Granted i'm in ecology - so my conferences are super informal - but there are usually snacks and beer and wine, too. :D

About the only thing good about living in Jersey! :P

Heading to Atlantic City on Friday to see the Beach Boys play - on the beach, baby! Woot! Awesome fireworks too. :)

No big trips for me until December - Sanibel Island.

Why, when I was a grad student we only got out into daylight once or twice a year, if we were lucky. Posting on the internet? We only posted on the internet after turning the crank and stoking the furnaces for hours and hours. Oh, and when we carried water for our advisers, it was UPHILL BOTH WAYS! Yup. And it was ALWAYS SNOWING ROCKS!

Sheesh, students these days....

43. the red guy is a libellulid skimmer....
I don't know which one off-hand-- I could probably narrow it down to a few candidate species with date and location info but it would just be a guess without the specimen to examine. Those are beautiful shots!
