1. Well technically I live in Germantown currently
But thats pretty cool to see Gburg (where I grew up) rated pretty highly.
Ellicott City and Columbia 8th hmm. How many times did you vote in that poll anyway?;-)

but fear not. All is not lost. Coming in at No. 99...

Midlothian, VA.

Obviously access to recreational activities such as bunco was not among the criteria used. :-)

I think the people at Money magazine saved some scrilla and bought some ROCKS instead of the good POWDER this month, 'cause there's no other way I can explain this list.

i spent the better, or actually the worst, part of summer 2005 in Carrollton. I'm afraid there is simply nothing to recommend it.

fortunately there was a plane ticket back to SF every weekend as part of the deal.

who would EVER thought little old Euless, TX would make ANY top 100 list?

Must be the close proximity to the highways and healthcare, and the relatively low cost of housing.

Plymouth MN is #1, a suburb to the metro area I live in, as is Apple Valley, MN at 24.

What do you have to say to that?

I bet if I looked further down the list, I would find MANY more Minnesota towns...

edit: in fact there is quite a chunk of the metro area on that list, as long as you are a republican, you can live in those suburbs...

Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 08:07 PM by kagehime
or why it was #1 a few years ago. it's too white (there's a reason we call it vanilla valley ), too boring, lacks great food (there are some good places, but not a whole lot that i would call fantastic), has horrible public transportation and we're overrun by idiot college kids for nine months of the year.

yeah, we have a beautiful view, access to the mountains and fantastic microbreweries, but it sucks here

34. I live an hour from no. 3, and I'd stick sharp things in my eyes before I'd live there.
It's the ultimate consumerist uninteresting suburb. And pretty red, I understand. I'm curious about the qualities they were looking for--"gimongus strip malls" and McMansions must've weighed heavily.

37. A deeply flawed ranking!
Columbia's ranking over Gaithersburg is flawed by any objective measure. Gaithersburg has a Roy Rogers; Columbia does not. Case closed, end of discussion, game/set/match Turtlensue!

By the way, this list has my town (and OmahaSteve's and Lil Missy's)at #3.
