SarahBelle reviews "Control"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421082/

This well made film of the late Ian Curtis (Joy Division) gave me a strong reminder of just why I never could have a successful relationship in my youth with any Joy Division fans (oh, I tried)... but the were all so so self-involved (like this movie) that they couldn't see how continually shitting on the people who loved them was wrong. After all, they were so full of..... art?

However, performances were good (especially Samantha Morton) and a lot of love (well, quality film-making) was put into it. At the end though you still find yourself asking, "Can I get those two hours of my life back?"

Mainstream films reviews? Sorry. That's RadioLady's job. :yoiks:

1. This review fills me with angst.
I now realize that I must share this angst with the world. Hopefully this will lead to me getting laid by several hot women. Then I will feel guilty about what a selfish, angst-ridden jerk I am. Then they will make a movie about me.

Love will tear us apart, baby!

I have a feeling a 2008 Joy Division guy is perhaps not the same as an 80's Joy Division guy.
The movie was well made and better than most of the crap they shit out for $100 million that they continually try to sell to us. I just have issues. :P

5. In all seriousness, it was very well made,
but for me it failed to answer the question "Why was this worth making?" I love Crowded House, but I seriously doubt that Neil Finn's life story would be worth making into a movie. During the film I kept asking myself, "If this same guy was a bricklayer, would anyone want to make a movie about a selfish, immature, self-destructive brick layer?" I doubt it.

6. Using that thinking, why make any character-based film?
I though Ian Curtis' life was pretty interesting and I consider him a pretty tragic character, and that was the point of the film. This, as you put it, selfish, immature, self-destructive musician who could have very well been the next big thing at the time had he not killed himself.
