5. Cold sores are a type of Herpes virus..
But NOT the same as the sexually transmitted form of herpes.
Herpes is a very common virus and there are MANY types/strains of it.

4. Mouth-breathing...
the dryness and cracking is caused by your breathing...it's like evaporation, when you blow air across the surface of a liquid, it evaporates faster.

The flaky, clear substance is drying or dried saliva...or sometimes if it's shiny, lip-balm.

Indirectly, the cause of dry-lips is often a stuffy nose.
