Poll question: Poll: What format would you prefer to listen to your music?
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 08:30 PM by devilgrrl
Howdy folks, I just thought I'd start yet another flame war, this time over music sound quality.

Today I scored rare vinyl copies of 'Nina Simone at Carnegie Hall' (1963) and Rosemary Clooney & Perez Prado's 'A Touch of Tabasco' (1959). The Clooney/Prado record has never been released in the US on CD. Which is strange considering that several songs have been used in current tv ads, so I was extra excited to finally get a copy of it. Both records are over 40 years old and sound creamy rich smooth.

Which leads me to ask which way the audiophiles amongst us would prefer to hear their music.

Recently, I did my own sound test to hear the difference between CD and vinyl. Vinyl won hands down, the sound is just better, it's richer, even with the scratches and pops it sounded better than the CD.

What do you think?

3. For true quality, vinyl can't be beat.
However, for sheer convenience, I choose digital. I can listen to every song in my library without getting off my couch. Now that I have a squeezebox, I can even stream from my desktop (where my music resides) to my stereo in the living room.

So I'm torn, I guess you could say. Right now, I don't own a turntable, so I'm all digital.

4. Vinyl records, but if available, I'd certainly prefer listening to all original tape masters
on something like an Ampex ATR deck.

5. Vinyl
I am a true convert to the joys of Vinyl albums.

I recently purchased a turntable/tone-arm/cartridge/Phono Amp combo that sounds MUCH better than a CD can, even played through the high end gear I own.

I still buy CDs, because I dont have a choice, but I treasure the Vinyl.
