1. Non-natives.
My apologies to DU native Teehasians, but when I lived in Teehas years ago, it was not a pleasant experience with those born and bread there.

4. Well, I sure as hell wish you and GOPisEvil had been around in
the mid-70's.

Teehas would have been much better with the two of you around, that's for certain!

5. Natives
People move here then bitch about the heat, or WTF-ever. Texans have grown up with it, so if you don't like Texas, or Texans, then don't move here and complain. People want to move here because how cheap homes are compared to elsewhere, then they want Texas to change to conform to their standards. Sort of like people who move next to an airport because it's cheap, then complain about the noise. Fuck that, if we wanted to live on the West Coast or up North, we would move there.

6. I've had positive experiences with both native and non-native Texans
However, it does seem like there is a certain type of person who moves to Texas because they want to adopt the 'Texas image.' The only good thing I can say about those people is at least they didn't inflict themselves on my state...

Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 03:50 AM by MicaelS
Why are you still here? If I disliked a place that much i would leave and not let the door hit me in the ass.

The only thing worse than a whiny-ass transplant, is a whiny-ass "Texan" who has "lived here all my life" and still hates Texas and their fellow Texans.

15. I've lived in Texas for most of my life (30 years), and I get along well with both,
but I'm just that kinda gal! :D
--------
Disclaimer:

I consider myself kind of a "transplanted native" at this point - I remember the other places I have lived, but my family moved here (Houston) when I was 7, so this is where I grew up and have spent the entirety of my adult life.

16. I've lived in Texas 34+ years
and the percentage of natives that I can't stand is about the same as the percentage of non-natives. There are parts of Texas I can't stand but there are parts of a lot of states that I can say the same about. I've lived in VA, OH, MS and CA , and been in most of the other ones.

17. My sister and her husband live in League City Texas.
He is a Tex Mex whose family has been in that area for many generations, she is a transplant who now has more of an accent than he does. They both love it, keep urging me to move there someday. My dad moved near them from PA a few years ago, too - Couldn't take the ice and snow up here anymore. He will be 92 on Jan 1, tells the ladies he is only 70.

21. I've lived in Texas for 20 years, and have never noticed a difference really
Texan or not, 90% of people are great, 5% are having a bad day or circumstances, and 5% are jerks. I really believe those percentages apply across the human race.

22. Here's my experience
Last year, I went on tour through the Southwest and I was scared shitless about going to Texas because Texan transplants I had met previously annoyed the shit out of me. So when I went to Texas I was pleasantly surprised how much I like Texans in Texas. In a short week, I became best friends with two guys in another band in Houston. They are now my plutonic life partners. So I like Texas and the Texans in it.

24. I've been here since I was 6.
So, non-native originally, but my wife and her family, my younger brothers and all my lifelong friends are native Texans. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I could really tell a big difference when the influx of non-natives started in the late 70's. Texas has changed a lot since then, some for the good, some bad.

25. never thought about it actually. I am a transplant myself.
been here almost 19 years, though.

I am a Southerner so none of the Texas traits that are just magnified Southern traits phase me in the least. I'm used to that. I have native Texas friends and non native Texas friends.
