I used to have 7 pair, until I saw the socks I like on sale. I decided to buy back-ups for when the washer demanded a sacrifice. All grey, so I can make a pair out of those eaten by the washer.
9. I haven't counted them but mostly all are grey crews
That way, I don't have to pair them up. I just grab two socks out of the laundry and they usually match, though I have collected different varieties of grey crews over the years. I am currently replacing ruined ones with Gold Toes. I went through an Old Navy period but those are really not very comfortable. I used to think they were sturdy but they actually get holes faster then others.
11. Never counted them. If I did, I'd be counting and counting and
counting my DH's. (well not anymore because he's on a strict no more sock diet) That man has a sock obsession. I swear he didn't get enough socks when he was a kid or something. We had a running joke for years, we'd pull into a parking lot of a store and look at each other and say "SOCKS!". He couldn't walk by a package of socks without buying them. He'd ask for socks for his birthday and Christmas.
I've slowly over the last few years helped him with his obsession. He is not allowed to buy any unless I am along. We must throw out socks if any new ones are purchased. It's helped tremendously.
