I'M GETTING A PHOTO PUBLISHED IN THE F***ING NEW YORK TIMES!!!!!
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 11:22 AM by gmoney
on edit: changed the headline to highlight the buried lede...

Could use some help from someone in NYC proper.

Looks like I'm going to have a photo published in Thursday's New York Times Metro section, but it's only available in the city, not the national edition.

Not sure how big it's going to run, but I would love to get maybe 8 or 10 copies of it.

Would someone be willing to buy a few copies, pull the appropriate sections, and mail them to me? Obviously I'll pay for the papers and postage and something extra for your trouble.

By the way, I'M GETTING A PHOTO PUBLISHED IN THE F***ING NEW YORK TIMES!!!!!

:D :bounce: :wow: :headbang:

Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 01:13 PM by gmoney

Check out http://www.500Kin365.org/ for more information on her life, her music, and her battle with cancer. Or the tomorrow's NY Times, evidently.

Contribute a buck to the cause if you can spare it... her family is facing some monstrous medical bills, I'm sure.

And remember folks, smoking can kill you.

16. Thanks Peggy
To get you to drop and F-bomb in my honor is, well, quite an honor.

Yes, the photo upthread is the one they'll be using, probably cleaned up a bit :)

I really have mixed feelings that this good thing for me is coming as a result of her passing, but a friend pointed out that maybe it's Karma, since I did try to do my part to raise awareness of her fundraising efforts and such, maybe this is some sort of reward or something.

19. NEVERMIND>>> I GUESS I JINXED IT
Just got a note from the paper saying they won't have room for two photos as planned, and mine is the one they're cutting in favor of the usual playing guitar shot.

Boy, has this day sucked eggs...

Well, back to my life as a nobody, already in progress.

42. The print edition had 1 photo of a Long Island railroad train
running through an area with trees on either side of the track. The online edition for had a series of 12 photos, including that one.

Were you the photographer for that series?

30. Yeah, I'm old enough to remember him from the Bob Braun 50/50 Club
Something you'd never see now... a locally produced variety/talk show. Rob was kind of a John Denver by way of Pat Boone sort of singer as I dimly remember. That, and they always introduced the "girl singers" saying that "she's 98 pounds soaking wet with rocks in her pockets" or something like that.

Katie was a really great person... glad I got to spend a day with her and the band doing photos and hanging out, but sorry we never got to repeat it.

Take care,
G

35. Rob lived around the corner from me as a kid
he was one year ahead in high school. He always favored the acoustic and played music parents would like, as opposed to wild electrified rockers like me; he's a really good guy. He started going to Cinci and appearing on the WLW local show while still in HS and eventually move\d there.

40. well, in this case, the family gave it to the paper...
the writer talked with the partner who I guess provided links to some of her pictures online, and the photo editor picked mine as a contender.

In general, it's a matter of submitting photos to a suitable publication. There's a book called the 2008 Photographer's Market that's at most bookstores that will tell you many of the different publications, etc. that purchase photos or use photos in exchange for a credit.
