Fan in hospital, pitcher in jail after minor league baseball brawl
DAYTON — Peoria Chiefs starting pitcher Julio Castillo is being held in the Montgomery County jail on a charge of felonious assault for his role in brawl Thursday night, July 24, during a game with the Dayton Dragons.
The jail Website indicated Castillo is being held pending a court appearance, and no bail has been set in the case.
A fan, who was hit by a ball thrown by Castillo during the brawl, was removed from the stands on a stretcher and had to be hospitalized, according to televised reports.
Guzman wasn't injured in the brawl. He and Castillo, the jailed pitcher, collided while going for a ground ball in the first inning, before all hell broke loose.
I'm listening to the archived radio broadcast right now.
He was throwing the ball at the opposing team's dugout, and it hit a fan. Which...doesn't say much for his skills with a baseball, but at least he didn't PURPOSELY throw it at a fan.
If you throw meaning to hit someone, doesn't matter if you hit the wrong person. He purposely threw it to injure someone, and he goddam well injured someone. That ain't no accident, kids.
