My guess is that this is my gratis copy for being a contributing author of WVU's English 101 textbook. I had two of my big papers published in it as student examples of an "ideal paper."

We found it at the local textbook store, too. Woot! I am officially published. My English professors informed me that this counts as publication for the sake of my eventual Master's Degree.

With that first one you can leverage it into many others. I've been published a lot, but it's weird - no one wants to be the risk taker, so the first one is the hardest - after that, everyone is more comfortable because someone else took the flyer first. If you're so inclined, you can parlay this into more and more.

Note that there's usually not a lot of money involved (I don't know exactly what you were writing about) but it serves as a way to further a consulting career or your credentials or whatever else it is that you're trying to develop. Invariably that's worth more than whatever you might ever make from publishing, but it's a key, and better yet - people automatically take you as expert and don't quiz you to death for a job figuring that "you wrote the book" on whatever and therefore your credentials are assumed. For me, that's worth plenty. I mean, the credentials are real, I just hate the whole stupid process of having to prove yourself for every little job.

So, cool! You're in the game now! Make the most of it...

But I refuse to abide by the ridiculous "rules" of then professional poets, so I guess that leaves me as one of the people whose work won't be appreciated until I'm long dead.
