Alison Krauss - Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPhQ7F0loKk&feature=related

Nina Simone - Feeling Good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBy4QXAAil8

Willie Nelson and Ray Charles - Seven Spanish Angels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63A__INJecI

OK, I have to edit to add Stevie Wonder, Boogie On Reggae Woman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tCeAZ1nQjk

Ray Charles was incredible in person - I saw him at the Greek Theater in LA in the 1990s and the moment he started to sing I started to bawl - he had an incredibly emotive voice that just tore me apart.

3. She went electric long before many men...
I have a couple albums of hers on my iPod. Used to blast it in Printmaking lab. She's really wonderful. :hi:

I hang out in the blues corner and love to have something different (yet familiar) thrown my way!

on edit: damn I wish there were still dinner/dance clubs with music like this. sigh. In Blast from the Past (with Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek, Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone - a pretty funny movie) Fraser dances to a stylized version of this. Swoon.

10. I know. I often wish I had a time machine to be able to go back...
...to that era of jazz. Just to make little stop-offs, and rock for a night...:-)
