The national news media is going to shit in their pants if the Yankees don't make the playoff
And of course they will treat it as some sort of crisis for the whole game of baseball.

"Oh my, what is going to happen to America's National Pastime now?

And there will be endless speculation about WHY the Yankees didn't make it, and how the Yankees can turn it around, and what George Steinbrenner's every move will be because winning championships is a God-given, inherited right of the New York Yankees.

The rest of us though will be enjoying a Yankee-free October.

2. I've heard that phrased as 'shit their pants'....
but never 'shit *in* their pants'.

It doesn't sound as metaphorical.

4. It's also less specific
It could mean they would take their pants off, then squat over them and pinch a loaf, and then what? They might not even put them back on! Where's the fun in that?

5. You'd better all start cheering for the Red Sox in order for that to happen then
Can't have a Yankees-free October, it seems, without having both the Rays and Sox in there in one way or another.

Go Sox!
