Diesel is the same as heating oil?
We're moving soon, and we're about to run out of oil. Naturally, we don't want to fill up the whole tank. The oil company we use doesn't make small deliveries, and won't sell us a small amount to pick up. They told us that we can just use diesel in our oil tank, and it'll work fine, because it's the same thing.

Has anybody ever heard this before?

5. We're buying a house a couple towns over
The housing prices have dropped a lot the last year. Where we are now is too expensive to heat, due to it's complete lack of insulation (250-year-old house)

9. Right now, we're just hoping everything goes through
It's a 3-bedroom ranch on half an acre with a lakeview. Pretty nice, and in much better shape than where we are now.

2. I Dont Think It Is The Same
My energy policy would be all houses that are heated by oil, gradually switch to electricity.....

:hi:

Are you moving to Delaware?

:hi:

6. No -- we're staying in NONJ
Unfortunately, just about all houses here are oil heated. We're hoping to get a pellet stove eventually.

8. Yeah, it's basically the same....
#1 fuel oil is Kerosene...

#2 fuel oil is Diesel and heating oil. The only realy difference is that diesel fuel is refined more- especially lately with the new sulfur requirements.

11. Yup
I used to throw 5 gallons of diesel in my tank when I got low and couldn't afford a delivery. Works fine. :hi:

13. Yeah -- we're definitely not paying to fill the whole tank
It'd be a $1000 and all we have to worry about now is the hot water heater.

12. Diesel will work well and safely in a furnace
Conversely, heating oil will work in a diesel engine, too, but will smoke like hell.

14. Thanks
I don't think I'll ever have to work about using heating oil in my car, but it's good to know that I can fill the oil tank with it.
