Hey, my son called and told me he's going to propose to his girlfriend.
He told me all about the ring he bought and how the stones are not from one of those places, lol, and how he trying to go see her parents first and he sounded a little bit nervous and a whole lot happy, more nervous.

I'm so happy for him. And how the F#CK is it possible that he's old enough to get married? :)

But, what the heck am I supposed to do? I told him to call me if he needed help booking the night of the proposal -- reservations or whattheheckever.

Is there something a mom is supposed to do besides be an ear?

Besides saving up for the wedding? Is she supposed to come and kiss my ring or am I supposed to find out what her allergies are? Both? Yikes.

:toast:

2. I will NOT wear one of those dresses to the wedding. They can both forget it
right now.

10. But, is there something else I'm supposed to do?
My mom always greeted these announcements with "Oh, no!" or, "You don't have to do THAT!", so I'm nuptually challenged.

Do I watch "Sex in the City" reruns or :wtf:

I promise I will not pre-book a 70s pop band. Or maybe, just for a short set.

8. You are supposed to remember...
All the sins and indignities that YOUR mother-in-law committed against you, and NEVER, EVER repeat them toward your new daughter-in-law.

9. My mother-in-law was one of my best friends
except, I had to do things her way.

Hmm. Better claim my turf now.

11. She is lucky to be getting such a wonderful mother in law
I know you'll be a great one, because your son confided his plans. He knows you love him, too.

Congratulations, and I hope it all goes perfectly!

12. w00t!
That's great news!

I remember when my daughter and her now-husband told us they were getting married. We both said, "It's about time!"
:)

And I'm with you on the dress thing. I refused to wear any of that crap at her wedding.

18. I managed not to say "Finally!"
lol

Seriously, I hope they have a great time and I hope I figure out how to chime in at the right time.

He took a really long, careful time. They'll be fine, thanks to Big Something. :)

13. You wonder how it happened that your son got old enough to be married?
Welcome to The World Of Getting Older, Which Is No Fun Except For When You Consider The Only Alternative, Which Is Dying Young.

It may not be much, but it's what we have.

14. Wow! Congrats!!! Here's what I did with my future MIL....
My family and I live in Austin and my in-laws were living in Oklahoma City at the time. Since my mom never met my future MIL, we all spent a weekend in Dallas (roughly half way between Austin and OKC) to look for their dresses. It was a great way for them to meet one another before the rehearsal.

Ultimately, your future daughter will want to feel welcomed into your family. The best way to do this is to laugh with her over embarrassing photos of your son when he was a kid. :D
