The Republicans are coming to my neighborhood. HELP!
I live a block away from where the free speech zone is set up. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to drive my car that entire week. I'm just going to crawl into a hole and wait for the ordeal to be over.

Any tips on how to survive the week?

1. Free speech zone...
Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 11:39 PM by primate1
In other words a legal place to protest where they won't actually have to deal with protesters?

The irony is both hilarious and fucking stupid.

2. And just watch

There will be more protesters than the designated area can handle and it will be impossible for me to drive anywhere the entire week. I agree with most of them. But I am also certain passions will be running high and I worry that my family could accidentally get caught up in the fray while we go about our daily business.

3. Maybe you could organize an informal protest...
no signs, no speeches, just a hike through the non-free-speech zone with duct tape across the mouths.

4. Sounds like a good chance to put
all kinds of good signs in your yard/window. They won't be able to do anything about it legally. Maybe set up a camera for any lawbreakers. Maybe you can catch someone elected to a local office somewhere violating the law when they try to deface your signs.

8. Hard to do in a high rise
Ou condo rules prevent us from putting any political signs up in our windows. And that was in effect long before the convention was announced.

5. well, my wife says
Streak, your close to home and you can make it.

I say it might be best to set out packets of prescription drugs, and see which republics forget to leave their hotel rooms.

6. A "Republican" free speech zone? I thought were free and welcome to say anything they want.
I thought only Democrats were designated to a different area. Cuz, it's not proper to disagree with a Republican president.

But, it was okay to trash a Democratic President, cause that's just "different".

9. The free speech zone is for protesters
Democrats, anarchists, etc are fee to protest if they have a permit and they isolate their protests to a small designated area far away from where any Republicans can see them.

One interesting thing -- I watched the local Fox news broadcast tonight. They make it sound like we need to really be afraid. They tell us the anarchists are highly organized.

10. Organized anarchy? WTF?
Isn't "organized anarchy" an oxymoron like "jumbo shrimp" or "honest Republican"?

7. Put a sign on your door that says "Free family values sex with boys and/or girls and/or other!!"
As they show up, take their picture and hand them to the cops, and in a few hours you won't have any Republicans left.

12. Good god I know
I am bracing for it myself. I do not know what impact it will have up here in Cathedral Hill, but I am dreading going downtown during the RNC...

My yard will have as many signs as possible in it though! :P
