Update on my Momma and her ALS specialist appointment today:
Hi kids :)

So, first Mom had her Orthotics appt, got fitted, all went well. They should be in soon. They're made of carbon fiber, or something. :)

Next, my Brother took her to get a copy of her birth certificate, so she can get on Medicare. Or Medicaid. I don't know, whichever you get when you have ALS (automatically eligible, regardless of age). They will cover most everything, and the MDA will cover the rest for her talking typewriter and a wheelchair in the future. She's also on my Dad's VA insurance (ChampVA).

ALS appt: Went well. No feeding tube yet, her weight is really good, breathing is good, no respirator yet. No more driving though. She's ok with that. No tears, sounds like it was generally upbeat. Amytriptiline (sp?) script is working ok, now that it's been doubled.

They're both home now, and I assume exhausted. Thank you all for your kind thoughts, etc. :)

:hi:

1. Yay! A bit of good news there, babykins.
And I'm so glad that things are lining up to provide her the help she will be needing.

5. sounds like you had another busy day
you know, I was off all week (got back from FL on Tuesday)... I don't know if I could have helped, but damn, anytime you need a hand, let me know. I think I live about half way between you and your parents.

7. Good news.
I believe it's Medicare-eligible based on SSDI-eligible disability, BTW. ALS patients have a waiver on the 24 month waiting period.

Good that she doesn't need the tube or respirator.
