2. Helped to invent, then prevent the use of nuclear weapons!
A wonderful human being--hated the discovery and worked against it the rest of his life!

3. I'm glad he worked against their use.
And, I'm glad he was apparently very effective. :)

It's always amazing that the only nation that has ever used Nukes, and used them on dense civilian populations, has the nerve to pontificate on which other countries are good enough to be allowed to have nukes.

It would be really nice if no countries had them. But given that the genie is already out of the bottle, I wish many, many more people were like your friend.

4. Oh, I wish that too. There still are many amazing people working
behind the scenes even now to keep them from ever being used again. The really hard part is the break up of the Soviet Union and the dire economic straits the scientists and mid level ministers found themselves in.
